Misc Cold Season Complaining

I've moved this to banter. What does running with it mean? Discussing possibilities or thinking something could happen because of evidence they've seen is fine. Making posts with absolutes that doesn't leave room for discussion is different. Those would be better suited for firing up social media followers. Putting them here can be considered trolling posts.
 
The thing is, we’re not going zonal any time soon. Cold is still hanging out to our west while we enjoy a warm up and it looks like the EPO wants to flip again. To me it’s just a matter of time from there. But if you’re betting the streak on warm Feb that’s not a terrible bet, but I just don’t see it yet. Give me a trough up around AK and I’ll throw in the towel. Until then, we ain’t done.

Yeah seems as though everyone that sees different in models other than winter weather is a Troll. Makes sense to me

I don't think that's true or what he was saying. It's ok to talk about warm or cold or rain or snow or whatever you see in the models. "Winter is over" is a stupid post. "It will be 2026 before anybody around here sees snow again" is a stupid post. "The Canadian is showing ice, so we're definitely going to get ice" is a stupid post.

I tell you (and everybody) what: Bring posts to me that you feel are unclear, and I'll evaluate it for you until we all get on the same page.

I never said winter was over. I simply quoted a Post saying that this ice threat wouldn't happen, Cause everything was trending towards a warm up. That's a long way from me saying winter is over

Agreed. And that's why I didn't say you said that. But those kinds of posts get plastered all over the place, usually by the same people. We need to clean that up. If something is unclear, I want people to bring it to me in this thread, and I'll evaluate it, and we'll all learn together. Because, it's been this way every year with the cancel stuff or this or/that is GOING to happen stuff, based on nothing more than a person's mood on any given day.

People are tired of this, and it's not good for the site. Complaining about a storm or whatever, that's fine. We need an outlet. But the woe is me stuff is tiring and annoying to a lot of posters.

There's definitely a lot of wishcasting going on and from some credible Posters. Most don't agree with me on that and that's Fine but people should have enough sense to see it
 
The heat enthusiasts are having a tough go this year. I think we should show a little compassion. I know the last two months have been difficult. They’ve been hard pressed to even find a fantasy map showing red anomalies this winter. Now they have a 96 hour window and you would think the poles were melting. Let them spike the football.

First week of Feb looks Pretty Warm to me, I bet a lot of areas in the upstate hits 70° that week, And I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see that continue past that.1000016556.png

I’ve been following since 2008 and rarely post. Agree 100%. Absolutes and weather are not a good combination at all, as most witnessed with the last system the extremes modeled for all of the southeast over a 7 day period. IMHO patterns (global) are more reliable than individual model runs up until go time. The fun is in the tracking! Will it get into the 80’s by the 1st week of February maybe however this winter in general has not reached torch level by any means when modeled. The general pattern has been colder and more moisture than modeled just not necessarily giving each location the snow we desire. Many posters react to emotions or preferences which this forum does a great job of segregating forum list for the appropriate post. People posting need to respect the moderators and comment in the appropriate forum. Sorry for rambling but the southeast has much more winter to track!

Thank you very much for the post. You should post more. Completely agree with all of it.

The fun is tracking. Nobody is saying that the CMC is going to be correct. It rarely is. But we're almost all here to track stuff. Nobody would be here if the only thing we talked about was the 80% of warm temps, nice sunny days, and starry nights. The fun is in the hunt, and we're here to hunt. I don't care if it's the CFS or the SPIRE or the Navgem. If it's got something, let's go! That is in no way an endorsement of "let's all hug the Navgem and use it to predict a snowstorm. I feel like I have to make that disclaimer.

Thank you! My son who has followed the forum since he was about 9 years old and is in college reminded me after this last storm, it’s about the fun of the “hunt” tracking the possibility of a storm in the south!!! Other areas of the country snow is either a given or not gonna happen. I’ve lived in South Carolina my whole life I’ve seen monster snow storms to whiffs but the fun is in the hunt!

The overexcited heat mongering in late January, calling Winter over would lead to the massive drop off. At least without the negativity, people would stay around and have somewhat decent discussion about the next pattern shift.

I said this before, and mean it; The trollish heat mongering posts (not the people giving authentic outlooks) will be talking to and amongst themselves soon enough.

This is likely overdone; even the GEFS has way cooler temps for that entire week; pretty much mid 50s throughout.

Euro has a similar look for that time stamp but a front is passing through so western areas aren't as war. Then the front passes through on the Euro and the rest of the week is much cooler than on the GFS as the front never passes on it.
