Misc Cold Season Complaining

That Euro AI looks beautiful, but something tells me that it won't verify.

Can see February being more zonal than the ice box that January was. At the very least, probably about half the month will be cold maybe this time. Maybe we shut off winter at the halfway point like a 2011 perhaps (not 100% there).

it can't be understated how disastrous 22-23 and 23-24 were to the entire eastern seaboard

heart says bring the cold, energy bill and general health and wellbeing says hang on a minute partner!

i've been reading and getting good sleep the last few nights instead of staying up for models that won't verify and it feels amazing

Not true. It has EPS support and the Canadian seems at least partially onboard with something as well. I wouldn’t get hopes up too much, it’s quite far off. It also looks more icy than snowy.

This is my first year living in a single family home and I am a little nervous what the heating bill is going to be next month. Wasn’t as big of a deal in an apartment, but I think there may be some sticker shock when I get the bill next month and I’ll have to reconsider whether I really want wall-to-wall cold all winter. 😂

The singularity is delayed!! AGI pushed back until 2030!

In all seriousness, I am curious what AGI, should it happen, will mean for weather forecasting. In theory, it could really improve weather forecasting, although lack of OBS may limit how good forecasting can really get.
 
I think the signal is becoming clear. No more winter threats this season outside of the mountains and perhaps the northern foothills of NC. After this possible threat in about a week, true springtime will be here. This Feb will be just like the last 2. Feb and are March are now spring months in the southeast

Most models starting to show a ridge in the east now and sending the cold out west. The Euro has another shot of cold in the east, but it stays to our north, not making it very far below the Penn and Maryland border.

Thinking about it pretty strongly. This storm pretty much broke me. Every year I tell myself I will not waste time with anything on the ops beyond D4 and ensembles beyond D6-7, and every year I'm in here analyzing 200 hour output. For my own health, I've got to step back some haha.

People were terrified of a possible replay of Jan 2014.

Which shoot, I don't blame them. There was "some" preparedness, and yet it happened anyway in several spots. Saw a former schoolmate say that there were 36 cars abandoned on their road (not Augusta, but near Atlanta) and apparently many people got stuck on 75 near Macon for 12 hours.

Heck... Charlotte.

I guess I sort of get it I mean tbh I even thought the storm was gonna pull a 2014 I was really shocked my parents got screwed so badly. They only missed it by 30-40 miles

But like here both times too the snow has been a surprise and not well forecast 🤣 the 6 inches was supposed to be an inch or two and the dusting Monday night should have never happened
