not my specialty but i assume this effectively sets the crawdad industry back by a half decade?
CLT proper used to be 4.5 .....Id say outlying areas like Salisbury, Statesville ect used to be like 6-7I’m pretty sure that isn’t quite right. I’m fairly certain GSO’s 1981-2010 average was in the 7-8” range, at least. But aside from there and maybe GSP, I’m not sure anywhere else in the SE among major metros averages over 6”.
I know north Carolina can get big ones.....but it appears damn near impossible to get 6 plus from Atlanta to gsp or greenwood and on to the east. Most of the time the Carolinas get hit big...its rain or ice..or snow to ice/rain down this way to atlanta. Getting what just happened to the Gulf coast to happen further north is apparently even rarer...which is mind blowing to me.meh idk....my dad always told me growing up "Son at some point the sun will shine on every dogs behind" maybe we just havent been let outside yet and our time is near. I had 13" in Feb 2014 and 7" in Jan 2017, 9" in Dec 2018 so it can happen
Maybe we’re on the Nashville arc. I’m pretty sure they had a dreadful snow drought before 2019, and we all know how they’ve been doing since then ().It would be amazing if the Western Piedmont Statesville down to upstate then to Columbia could overperform on a storm just one time lol
We've definitely blew it in the northern upstate. It doesn't feel like there will be anymore chances. It's been a blockbuster winter for everywhere else. What a disaster this winter if for this area and some of the foothills of western NC.For everyone that missed yesterday, don’t worry. The GFS is going to throw us some sleet pellets on Feb 1 before it scours the wedge with a cutterView attachment 166808
Probably got more snow than all of us. That’s the way it goes.Wonder how it turned out for that guy in Johnston County that kept complaining he wasn't getting anything yet and he was going to get dry slotted.
So far I would give the winter an A- for cold. Been below average most of the time with lots of low 20s and upper teens. I can't give it an A+ though because I haven't had true cold nights; my lowest has only been 16 which isn't really all that cold; should have had some upper single digits somewhere. For snow; my grade would be a D so far. Got 1.5 of slop a couple weeks ago but could have been so much more, and this week was a total skip for me.We've definitely blew it in the northern upstate. Nothing because we crapped the bed. The two little snows were actually big snows for the south, we just failed. That's why it feels over to me. There probably aren't many years with 3 big storms in the southTwo snows (little yes) before Januarys end. What does February hold?
I wouldn’t mind a warm up before the big dog pattern to close out winter during the back half of February.
I wouldn't say we "crapped the bed," but rather Mother Nature gave us the middle finger. We did everything we could to bring it these home.Nothing because we crapped the bed. Pretty sure they just bury themselves below the frost lines. I've got some massive ones at my house with holes 4-5 feet deep.not my specialty but i assume this effectively sets the crawdad industry back by a half decade?
Alaskan snow lovers heading to Denali - or is it McKinley again? - to cliff dive.
Hopefully this the new long-term pattern for a few years and we get to experience one more 1980s or 2010s like stretch before it gets too warm to snow at all. This just goes to show, the west coast of North America has gotten so comfortable having the trough and the cold dump out there year after year after year after year. Well, it didn’t this year. Come get your snow. It’s laying on the gulf coast. View attachment 166882
December - 1.25"3 snow events here this year
1st in December with the clipper, 0.7 here
2nd a couple weeks ago, around 0.2 with that one
3rd yesterday, 0.35 here
Season total = 1.25” here
Weird - that same run shows snow into GA too (heading towards ATL?) -- and doesn't show up on literally any other model? Is this hallucination from HRRR?North-central AL probably gonna see some surprise snow from that clipper from the sfc trough out ahead. Bet someone could get a nice coating from this View attachment 166892View attachment 166893
