Misc Cold Season Complaining

I'm not gonna lie, I would've been pretty mad if I didn't have a January 2014 esque event while the coasts and places about 50-60ish miles to my south got more.

I'd like 1 more event at some point, but I'll need a break after we threaten record lows tonight.

Look at that snow hole for central SC to NC. Brutal. Many places lining the gulf have more snow than NYC to Hartford to BOS...unreal.

They also have more snow than a few places in the Dakotas. That's strange considering we've been in a La Nina pattern, albeit weak. They should be doing fairly well. Very strange winter so far.

In this current day and age, La Nina’s do it better now then El Niños. I mean look at our last cold coastal… 2018 during a La Niña, then 2022 during a La Niña. El Niños suck
Amen x 1000, I was thinking same thing heading into this year. Just off past 6-7 previous years experiences. We get cold shots way better in La nina than el nino. Plus el nino floods Canada with pac air.
We always say, get the cold first.

Now the pitfall with La nina is qpf always. Ive had 4 separate events this season. 3 stayed all snow and the other had snow the first 4-5 hours before turning ice. We are no more than 3.0 total for the season max. But the cold has been stellar. 3 separate 7 dayish much BN outbreaks. May turn to garbage in Feb, but so be it. Dec and Jan gave us the window we needed.

I had a fleeting moment yesterday right after the 18z nam where I thought that I was going to come in here and post pictures of my snow dunk on a few members then ride off iri the sunset. Blah
Yeah, I kind of hate we had that NAM run or two that really went bonkers. In my head, I knew better, but given the chance of a NW trend my heart took it a little too seriously and I let intrusive thoughts of 3”+ get in my head instead of 1” like I had been expecting (and we got).

No we are good for about 1k years. We live here because we like warmth and hurricanes and sun burn and bikini season. Not snow and cold.
I guess can’t move to the gulf for warmth… what’s the point of moving to the gulf and then getting the same lows Raleigh gets ? Geez! 6 degrees further south and all you get for it is dead palms and grass and snow ! Oof … I guess only Miami is safe , but even they got a flurry or dusting once

We had more snow than these maps, idk about them. I guess it's the "locally higher amounts" part not accounted for.

It's been the golden age..or snowy age for the deep south the past 2 winters, it won't get much better than the past 2 winters. I'm sure Boston to NYC is pulling their hair out....

Supposedly this is the USA's average snowfall yearly through 2010. Is it right?

Cause if this is right, it puts a lot of expectations into perspective. (the gray area is < 6in)

One thing this storm has reminded me is that we can still get record breaking snows or anomalous winter storms. I may never see a ‘73 in my lifetime but I do believe I’ll see a 6+ inch event. I love weather and I’m happy with this winter A+. Now bring me spring unless I get that 6+ event 😂
What boggles my mind is how insanely hard it is to get even 4 inches much less 6 inches and above from Atlanta to the Carolinas. One would think at least once in a hundred years some fluke storm could drop 6 to 12 in that corridor but apparently it's harder than getting a foot on the Gulf coast or 8 to 12 in south Georgia.

meh idk....my dad always told me growing up "Son at some point the sun will shine on every dogs behind" maybe we just havent been let outside yet and our time is near. I had 13" in Feb 2014 and 7" in Jan 2017, 9" in Dec 2018 so it can happen

What happened to patterns where it's really cold to our North and we are right along the boundary??? Seems like the last 6-8 years we're either warm or get cold that's too suppressive and too far south. We can't buy a nice arctic high pressure that stays over the great lakes and northeast... They have to come crashing down through the gulf coast when we get cold. So frustrating. end of rant.

I’m pretty sure that isn’t quite right. I’m fairly certain GSO’s 1981-2010 average was in the 7-8” range, at least. But aside from there and maybe GSP, I’m not sure anywhere else in the SE among major metros averages over 6”.
