Misc Cold Season Complaining

There’s no reason to think we’re done for the year. We’ve got the hot hand and I’ll be betting the streak.

Sometimes, the best forecast is persistence. I see no reason to not be optimistic about the rest of winter. It stings a little to not have gotten more snow given how below average we are this month, but at the same time sometimes too much cold is a bad thing for our snow chances.

I can’t ever remember being too cold for snow with a massive low pressure system to my south. I’ve never been that guy but I was today for the most part. It’s nice to know it’s possible so the next time we get an airmass that isn’t so anomalous we have a chance to be New Orleans.

Man, I have no interest in working even a half day tomorrow. If the decision is not taken from me, I may well call out, apologize, and say I’ll return on Thursday afternoon instead (I see that 13 degree low prediction tomorrow).

@Mitch West What did you end up with?

Here, I was around 1.3 inches give or take a little.

I think we have now learned that the Euro/GFS are the two best models in the world and using the foreign models outside those is pointless, at least for snow storms in our yards. Canadian really led the way making us way too greedy after what it showed.

Well I honestly think we will go into an above normal pattern through Feb So if I was a betting man I'd bet all I had the chances will be Slim to None now
It's over and the entire pattern is about to change. The southeast ridge is coming and the GFS is showing upper 80's in parts of FLA and 90's in Cuba. I just hope we start getting wetter weather soon.

Go to campus right now , I guarantee people are out , by the court of carolina is it where those steps are ! Sledding and throwing snowballs
I’ve had my fun for tonight. I’ll be up earlier than my usual tomorrow to see what the vibes are. Wonder if Umstead will be open

I didn’t get to do my 3 mile walk in it sadly as I was at work and got home an hour ago , but I played in it some
We got sent home at lunch and right as I got home it started to come down and stick. Been a long 6 years since 2018 and that was the same year I got my heart ripped out when N ATL got the NW trend that gave them a foot

I’m done for this winter. This is way more exhausting than I remember. And because for the first time in my entire long life, those words I never imagined actually entered my brain and I’m saying it “out loud”. Of course that means this winter ain’t over. And of course I won’t be able to look away as much as I like to think I could. Cuz hi, I’m an addict. And this drug is basically my life.

here’s the analog for a thousand year gulf coast blizzard. They might need to dust this one off again on day View attachment 166694
In this current day and age, La Nina’s do it better now then El Niños. I mean look at our last cold coastal… 2018 during a La Niña, then 2022 during a La Niña. El Niños suck

Another "teaching" type storm

Past 5 days, just occasionally look at a model but don't take it seriously under 2-3 days before an event
Cold temps are almost always over stated what is being shown past 4 days
Western NC, Tn, NW Ga and NW SC need a storm that is just off or hugs the coast and is stronger
When it is too cold, suppression is likely (Virga is a B****)
The amount of "how much for my backyard" posts are astronomical although the mods do try to keep it clean
January is still the best chance for us to get any snow.
Every storm there will be winners and losers and the winners gloat and the losers sulk but that is human nature
Still this is by far the best weather forum for the South there is

EC AI says we go for record breaking 500mb heights with this SE ridge in early Feb, ridge near 597dm 💀View attachment 166724
Canonical Feb Nina pattern. Not sure what it’s going to take to break this string of terrible Feb patterns. Been since like Feb 2015, a decade, since we’ve had a solid BN Feb.
