Misc Cold Season Complaining

Chicago ?
Idk I always hear Chicago winters are brutal. I-70 is the sweet spot where snow still feels special and you get a good amount. I lived near I-90 and it got old quick. Cold isn't as fun when your nose hairs freeze and your hands get stuck to the doorknob in the morning. Plus the shorter days and constant grey skies.

I wouldn't go anywhere north of Philly or I-70, except maybe NYC. New England winters will make you despise cold and snow
Agreed. I grew up in Northwest GA. I moved to Boston in May 2018 for work and stayed there until the end of 2022. I was tired of the winter by March of 2019. But there were some great scenes, like this

Price per sq foot in Rochester ny is $102…

In Raleigh it’s $244… more than double. In Rochester schools are better, public services better, and if you do Buffalo you even get a subway system … and over 100 inches of snow… people are clueless leaving the northeast thinking the south is cheap, it isn’t … in fact outside the dense major ne cities, it’s cheaper for housing. Even a lot of the Philly burbs are cheaper than Raleigh and you get much more amenities … just saying, you can make more money spend less on housing and get more snow if you leave the south

This doesn’t exist in Raleigh or even in any town within 60 miles of Raleigh at this point … traffic is less too

Snow and less traffic ya say? I’m listening…

Nah after going to Breckenridge and Kansas City this winter I realized I couldn't live up north... Snow already sometimes isn't the same here after being in Alabama and Dallas... I mean it was snowing last week and school was open!!! And nobody was freaking out or panicking about it... I've never seen that before 😜

Waffle House was open in Kansas City despite a blizzard

I mean we had school closing in Louisiana 4 days before any snow... It's not the same up there

Upstate NY RE is cheeeeap. It quit growing years ago. Everything above the Mason Dixon line has pretty much had declining or stagnant population growth for years. Quite the opposite for the South.

Not gonna lie. The drama of folks freaking out. I think that’s a big component of my joy in winter weather.

And I can’t imagine anyone there being as amazing as the “just get all fat and sassy” granny. Just not the same.

yep, metros like Rochester and Buffalo are similar in size to Raleigh ( minus Durham chapel hill), Birmingham , Richmond… they aren’t small towns. They boast lots of amenities, more than cities here, are better built , better schools, better public transport …. I mean … if you can handle the snow why not? You won’t see much sun but who cares, sun melts snow

Trust me guys and gals, watch this epic and know that this is who is getting the snow hammer on Tuesday/Wednesday! You'll thank me later:

Fun fact: record low in Buffalo New York is warmer than the record low in Knoxville Tennessee and the town of new market Alabama… the south is anomalously cold

The record low in Knoxville and the record low in Chicago are almost exactly the same

Have in-laws from near that part of the world just a bit south. It's startling the quality of life difference even with the long winters. People that have lived their entire lives in the south have no concept of how much better it can be. It's also why the yankees complain so much about living here yet continue to come down.

Rural areas of PA/NY can be as bad as they are here but the cities are doing very well again.

Yeah, the public services are far better to here and the older cities there offer a better quality of life. If it wasn’t for the weather I don’t think as many people would leave. The south is crowded, over priced , sprawled, and polluted. Apparently even New Haven ct, just outside NYC, home to Yale has cheaper homes than Raleigh

The record low for Tallahassee, FL (-2F) is lower than the record low for Bergen, Norway (3F), in fact!

If this storm has a theme, that is the theme. One model better, next one worse. Stair step trend straight to the gutter.

Remember 3 days ago until like 18Z runs Thursday it’s “omg what consistency this storm has been” “I’ve never seen such consistency except X storm” ect
