if the euro nails the bottom third of my state with 12+ inches tonight, i am going to go stock up on canned meat and go ahead and start eating it. i hate canned meat

I just want everyone to sit back and think about this. Since you have been doing this how many times have you been in the bullseye at day 5, 6, 7 but ended up SE of the bullseye or in rain? Then think a little more how many times at day 5, 6, 7 have you seen a storm to your SE but it moved north in the last 96 hours.
Bump. I mean did we not learn our lesson last storm. We screamed “amp” and it did just that and completely gave freezing rain scraps to a lot of areas

Need advice from this thread: I’m currently in Southeast Asia traveling with my wife for our anniversary. My two kids are back in Raleigh with relatives. Do I need to consider flying all the way back to be there for next week’s snowstorm? I don’t want to miss this (increasingly rare) experience with my sons, but I would feel like an absolute idiot if it doesn’t pan out (and I bailed on a picture perfect tropical beach for 24 degree highs and bare soil). Obviously getting back from here is quite challenging (at least 30 hours door to door) and takes some advance planning.

How long can you wait?

Good question. I’d probably have to buy refundable flights now. I’d have to depart on Monday in Asia to get back by Tuesday morning. It’s a lot. Or should I just be satisfied that my kids will get to play out in it with their relatives and not us? The timing absolutely sucks after all these years.

If ya did it, it’ll be one hell of a memory regardless. Though might take a while for the “whomp whomp” outcome to become the inevitably funny tale it would become.

Flip a coin?

IMO traveling abroad with your family beats a snowstorm. I love snow at home too but you are probably on a once in a lifetime trip. Enjoy the trip. It will snow again in Raleigh, you guys usually end up with some snow every year. Go be with your family and absorb every minute.

lol. I would so be this person. I’d totally consider it. There is nothing like snow where you call home.

I’d also prolly sleep on it and totally think I was nuts the next morning.

So maybe they should do that. Sleep on this crazy.

miller-a north central fl. plz come to me

Definitely thinking western VA is out of this one with suppression. Good luck to everyone down south! Maybe I can get some good trends for the Sunday event.

I’m tired of getting dunked on by Brad P. I can’t take much more tbh
B rad will b rad worrying about his audience going to work and school tomorrow morning. Anything beyond that range is fog in the wind to him. But that's where we live and enjoy the discussion.
Keep up the banter on the medium to long range. Some of us enjoy the rosy outlook even if it waxes and wanes.
That's why we're here.

I have a good feeling. There's still a half inch of snow turned to ice on most of the driveway tonight. We have adventures still coming in January.

I've been rolling with B Rad for a long time. He is a huge snow weenie and you just don't turn that off. He seems to have ptsd like the rest of us from the last 3 years and is basing that on emotions. It really just seems like we can't win from GSP to CLT and no matter the setup we are going to fail. This one has that feel that it's going to miss south and leave the 85 corridor snow holed after 2 years of nothing and we're going to settle for a whopping 0.5" for the year. There isn't another one behind it to save us this time. And unless Feb does something unexpected in the 2nd week it's now or never.

OP GFS ‘bout to score a coup?

I’d kill if the GEFS solutions for the past couple runs were right, but I’m afraid it’s supporting the idea of Friday too much for my liking.

One idea has to be wrong and I’d say it’s probably midweek that is.

Well at least we lost the storm now instead of a couple days before the event lol. It's hard to snow in the Carolinas

This storm is still a real possibility. We're in that 5–7-day period where operational models (can) lose the important details of the storm. Not sure why this happens. Need to get this thing under 5 day and continue to get a strong storm signal until then.
