April 2024 Discussion

Looks like an outside chance we could hit freezing one of these next few nights at RDU. Not likely, but something to look out for as we currently have the earliest last freeze on record by a big margin. Zero freezes in March! Worst winter ever!

NICE! And check out Beech Mtn; 24 and snow.

Looks like it snowed and accumulated all the way down to the base, too!

Saturday night might be the last chance for RDU to hit freezing (..so it wouldn't break an earliest last freeze record). Current forecasted temps for RDU are 35 so it's a long shot right now.

But here's RAH with some hope:
.SHORT TERM /SATURDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHT/...
As of 300 AM Friday...

The trough and low pressure near ME will slowly migrate into the N.
Atlantic and exert less influence by Sat night. Ridging over the
Midwest will build into the TN valley and allow surface high
pressure to settle into central NC by early Sun. Winds will continue
to be a little gusty from the NW in the 15-25 mph range. Highs will
be similar to Fri in the upper 50s to low 60s. Winds will decouple
at night, and, with clear skies, excellent radiational cooling will
support our best chance of a freeze over portions of the Piedmont to
northern Coastal Plain. A Freeze Watch/Warning may thus be needed
with later forecast updates. Overnight lows are expected to be in
the low to mid 30s, with some isolated spots of the Piedmont in the
upper 20s.

Hope the AI model is right this looks amazing for mid-late April. Glad we might be able to avoid the 90s that are typical by this point View attachment 147349
Agreed! It was almost 90 last week. Way too early for that. But unfortunately, it's the new norm.

Would really love to see that look mid/late May. Next month can have long stretches of really nice or summer hot temps.

Freeze Warmings and Frost Advisories posted for much of the Piedmont for tonight. GSO actually hit freezing last night; RDU hit 38. 😂 INT only hit 37, too, though, so GSO’s reading is a bit surprising.

Someone on one of our social pages who just moved in March is bragging about how great the weather is here... Yeah well if the tornadoes or 100 mph derechos don't get us by July the it's so hot you cant be outside heat will 🤣

The endless days of sunny and hot weather in the summer sounds boring.

For those of us in NC we are going to have to watch the backdoor front on Monday for some severe weather. There's a long history of hail events with this type of setup especially if we are able to get into the 70s 80s Monday afternoon
