4/24/20-4/26/20 possible severe weather

In the Charlotte area the storms are likely to arrive later this evening around 10 PM or so, what would that mean for fuel? The sun has been out for the majority of the day and the warm front is now pulling through if not north of me.

Wild how we get these 1-2 punch tornadadic supercells that like to go through the same area. Heads up, Salem

Looking over guidance, I don’t believe the cold air north of Charlotte is going to prevent severe storms around i40 and north on i77 all the way to Elkin, NC. I think a Tornado Watch may be needed. I always remind myself the last tornado here had very cool temps, it’s honestly prob rare to see warm tornadoes up this way.

Radar is not presenting the storm north of GSP well, almost like something is messing with that area on the radar tilt (maybe mountains?) , but that’s still a strong storm 3B78901D-0E70-4396-9636-D51A55DCCACF.png23A4FCA4-5853-4F1A-82E0-6E841FEED058.png

Dews are still holding in the upper 50s for most in upstate SC and southern NC, the deep layer relatively dry air should temper the tornado threat here and make these storms more outflow dominant and lead to cooler RFDs. Ideally, for tornadoes you really want warmer RFDs s.t. it's easier to tilt & stretch vorticity back into the updraft.

SO MUCH ROTATION IN TR. I have never seen anything like it. Also, very visible updrafts. We also had pea sized hail. It was hard to see a distinct wall/shelf cloud from my house as it is at the bottom of a hill, but it was wild. My house is basically on top of the boundary so we have two more cells to go.

Today is producing some beautiful and rare low precipitation supercells in upstate SC. They usually don't produce tors as frequently as their classic counterparts but man, they have amazing structure!

Makes sense we're seeing these today given this environment:

I’m desperate, so I’m just gonna try to get long exposure shots tonight with these storms and hope for lightning to illuminate

Im so pissed at myself rn I didn't go chasing down there, today would have been literally the ideal setup with LP sups, little precip, adequately slow storm motions.. Argh

Yeah I was thinking about it , really getting to me now, and we actually have better MUcape advecting in now which elevated structure can be even better itself

Tornado warnings have been taken down, the third cell has tor possible

yep I agree with what has been said no really a tornado setup but rare supercell types I agree with yanking the Warning with the other two cells. These three supercells look to go north of Charlotte in the south/western piedmont

There’s nothing to bring the rotation down out of the mid levels. If there’s any continuance of the tornado watch further north-east, it should be a severe thunderstorm watch.

Hail cores are really picking up, likely starting to become elevated with MUcape surging in

Tornado Warnings now in NC outside of the watch area. SPC has been kinda wishy washy lately.
