I seem to recall Opal doing something similar. Opal just hung around the Yucatan for the better part of a week before conditions became favorable and it rapidly intensified. I'm not at all saying this system will do the same, but I never trust systems in the GOM or NW Caribbean.

The Tampa area down to Sarasota and Englewood Florida certainly doesn’t need a hit of any kind either. Many of these areas broke storm surge records. My mom’s condo in Englewood had 2.5 feet of “category 3 water damage.”
