Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

I'm considering out-of-state options to go to college. Chances are I'll stay, but I'm frustrated right now.
You considering someplace crazy cold and snowy? Like Syracuse or Vermont? (I have no idea if those are met schools btw, just the first two that popped up in my mind)

They said go west, go west, and it did. Bird man swiftly swoops in to crush the dreams, claiming late bloomer status and reminds everyone where they live. Love it! Get ‘em bird man.

Winter can be bad in New England too. I thought I'd be safe from NW trends and model BS when I briefly lived in Western Massachusetts a few years ago, but boy it can be just as bad up there. For one storm NWS Albany forecasted 16" for my town 48 hours out but I ended up with like 4" of sleet thanks to a last minute NW trend and an undermodeled warm nose while Albany 30 miles north got slammed with 17". It was like the Wake Co. gradient on crack. You get screwed in many of the same ways you do in NC.

Yeah but even in a bad winter up there you wind up with twice as much snow as Raleigh has ever gotten before.

I have family and was born NW of Boston. I guess with more snow opportunities, comes more opportunities to get screwed by the NW trend.

True, but most of it comes in nickel and dime 1-3" nuisance events. It gets old quick. Snow just isn't enjoyable up there aside from the one nor'easter you get per year. Plus you have to deal with envying Vermont getting twice as much snow as you every storm, it's like the Roxboro of NE.

I interviewed for a job with Syracuse University and that town is the biggest dump I’ve ever visited and I’ve been to Fayetteville multiple times.
