Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

1) Think about how much you spent tracking this.
2) Apply that time to something more productive in life
3) Feel bad and learn your lesson
Isn’t it great to have a hobby where we have no control over the result? So silly, and yet here we are.

Sitting here in the north Triad, I went from being on the outside looking in to being the Thursday 1” winner. ?

(For the record, I’m expecting jack squat from this system. Even on Thursday.)

I think my point is being misinterpreted to an extent. I'm not targeting this community specifically or any specific members. I'd just like for people to be more aware of what's happening downstream of them sometimes as a whole. Not just in this potential, but anything from severe to hurricane, floods and drought, etc.

I've seen a lot of new members rooting for some meteorologically incorrect things for their back yard because they are reading that "so and so is good out west". I don't care to get into specifics, but people rooting for certain things in certain areas doesn't translate well for other areas, even their own sometimes if they're following the "good trends" being spoken and are new to the weather hobby.

Question: As of the 12z runs, Precip isn't far enough west for me to get precipitation. So now i want to root this thing amp up in the next 48 hours, but that might cause someone to get an ice storm, and that might cause damage. Is this now off limits? I'm not looking to pick a fight I'm just hoping to get clarification with an actual use case.

Exactly. If we all had discipline and did not track every model run until 24 hours or less out, we would feel a lot less depressed about this I think.

The system has been cursed by the bird flu, so wish away.

All my hobbies are painful. Weightlifting , hiking , and model watching . I don’t think I’m a masochist but based on my hobbies you would believe so.

Two of those are productive and improve your life. One does not.

Anyone got the RGEM yet? I need something else so I can toss the NAM. Or…well, I don’t even want to conceive of that possibility.

I think Brick is a basketball ball guy. Indoors. I have softball and soccer which is outside starting February. Old bones like warmth.
Yeah , but he would always complain about the cold spring messing up his kids t ball games and practice

I have lots of work to do, but now I’m just sitting here shaking my head in disbelief.

could this one rival the jan 18 disaster of a storm? i remember every ensemble member 24hrs out had me with a foot in raleigh and i got nothing but sleet.

I got locked out of the cloud thread! ?
At this rate, it’ll be the partly cloudy thread tomorrow

What in the world happened? This is depressing. We finally have awesome cold and poof.

I hope the models invested some bad data.
Tonga, Tonga, Tonga!

From CNN: "The eruption of an underwater volcano near Tonga on Saturday was likely the biggest recorded anywhere on the planet in more than 30 years, according to experts.
Dramatic images from space captured the eruption in real time, as a huge plume of ash, gas and steam was spewed up to 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) into the atmosphere"

Just goes to show it can always come back, too. Let’s hope, anyways. ?
