Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

@ryan123 , I know these posts get out of hand, but its not as bad as the " I know its going to snow in Boone, but what about Blowing Rock?" type questions.Screenshot_20220113-125115_Chrome.jpg

Posting in whamby not the clutter main thread.

Our place in lake toxaway is at 3200 feet. We are paid through Monday. I specifically messaged the owners and she said the community has a plan and budget set aside for snowstorms. I sure hope we can get out of there at some point Monday. The idea of getting stuck is a little unsettling.

When we booked this, I was anticipating a nice snow, but it has really blown up.

What are you driving?

Will i be able to leave Hendersonville Monday afternoon or should I plan on staying another day? I’ve never purposely set up shop in a storm like this. What should I bring?

4Runner and a CRV. Neither are 4WD, but I imagine both are better than most.

I just hope they plow the roads and all will be good, but I’ve never witnessed a massive snow. Been in numerous snows in gatlinburg where once they plowed, all was good.

Its impressive with those 2 lows we still get a cutter. ?‍♂️

I just posted similar thoughts. I’ll be driving the 4x4 Dodge 2500 mega cab and she’s a beast in the snow but there are limits.

Here's what I personally do. I drive a truck, always keep snow chains/cat litter/shovels etc. In the bed. Weigh down your bed as well I use sand bags that helps usually. Keep a camp stove with you. Recovery straps if you have them. Know your route to the main road, closer the better and go slow. I've gotten in deep and never been stuck but I plan my routes well and when I know I need to get out I rent places that are accessible to major arteries. They clear those first and will always be more passable. Backup batteries are important too/flashlights.

Should be fine, check your tires. Chains if you have them pack some sand bags and shovels just in case.

I’m not too far from Chimney rock road and I26. If we can make it down to 26 we should be good. Will plot an escape route when I get there.

Yea if I go I'll probably pick something close to main road.
It's always tough for me because I want elevation and that usually sends me up some strange roads. I'm not chasing this cuz I'm headed to Disney on Saturday, but with the holiday weekend prices and availability dont look great.

A 2wd 4runner is less capable of driving in the snow than a civic. Rwd is useless in snow
