With people in the Midwest and southern Plains states (IA, TX, OK) on this forum i wonder if the name should be changed ?
No. Don’t wanna be overrun by Yankees and if they do come I wanna know they are on southernwx so play by plays need to include south of DC.

If we start getting enough members from regions outside the SE we might create new threads/ sections that are regionally specific for general weather. Having to do a rebrand would likely be a logistical nightmare.

To add I would love to get enough members from other regions to actually be able to section things off. That's a long way down the road though most likely if ever. Most folks have their go to place and it usually takes a large event like extended downtime or poor moderating for them to leave. The one thing I have liked about this place is if something big is going on outside the region we talk about it even if it is just a few posts.

Anyone know why we still use knots instead of mph on the science side, when everything has to be converted to mph for public consumption anyway?

You know we are living in crazy times when theres a potential Cat 4 hurricane headed for the coast and it's not even the top news story ! I remember back in the old days a hurricane of this magnitude would be the top story.
Well also gotta consider its headed to a swamp vs Katrina in 2005. And more people are cutting the cord with only Netflix to watch.

Yeah if it were headed for Houston or New Orleans it would be getting a lot more attention. The average Joe doesn't care if a hurricane hits some remote swampland where almost nobody lives

If I were retired and had a lot of money and free time i would probably be one of those crazy people who chases storms. I would. Love to experience a major hurricane but i would probably stay inland to avoid the worst impact.

I know most weather has some kind of purpose. Hurricanes for instance i believe transfer warm air from the tropics to the poles and that helps balance things or so i think. But i never understood the purpose of tornadoes.
