Wintry 1/7/17-1/10/17 Winter Storm

Never fails. Stay up till 3, five days before the event. By the time snow gets here I'm drained.

Yeah I was wrong, I'll admit it. I only saw one page that had the system while it was going on. 17/20 look fine to me for the southeast.

And hi all, wasnt a part of your old community, but saw this on American and really like the atmosphere here so far :). Mostly a lurker so ty in advance to everyone with much more knowledge than I.  Good luck to whoever can reel this one in.

Here, I grabbed some data from the 00z GFS (cobb output) for your area:

Code:

Ditto!  Worn out when showtime begins.

Thank you Shawn! You're the best man

Good to see everyone on here from the old Talkweather forum. Glad I was able to find this place. Hope everyone is doing well. Happy New Year to all the folks. Now, let's hope we can reel this one in for most everyone on the forum.

Again, I'm going with a blend of GFS and CMC with the snowfall amounts. The models can have a hard time picking up those convective snow bands. I still believe that there will be higher amounts in the red marking that I drew. There could even be higher amounts in the narrow blue box that I drew over in AL. It's looking like north AL and area's north of ATL will see any where from 1-3". In the red box, any where from 4-6". Blue box in AL, 3-4". We'll see where we are with the Euro when it comes out.

Yes, guys do me a favor and please don't post the site into the main thread over there on AMWX.  Use the banter threads or private messages.  We don't want to look like spam.

I'm sorry about that Shawn. I just felt like if i posted in the main thread the word would spread quicker since people don't read the banter threads as much and I didn't know who to send a private message to.

Do you guys think the cold is being underestimated or this is a trend.

If trends and climatology pan out, I could see areas south of i20 (or south of Atlanta) receiving mostly rain.

I'm glad you did or I wouldn't have seen it. i go into the Banter thread about once a month, if that.

I truly believe this is going to overperform like this early week storm did.

Spalding County southward.

Live in Atlanta, but will be in the south metro this weekend. Not sure how too feel lol

When will the euro actually reach the point where we can see our storm? I got to get up early. Will it be out at maybe 1:10 am?

I just want Tony to get his sleet so he will be happy.

Metro Atlanta will be fine..trust me

Local Media hopping all over the RPM model... the worst model in all of meteorology. Shows rain moving into NGA around 6am Friday then all out by midday friday with very light accumulations limted to extreme northwest Georgia.

So is there two waves?! The model on WSB showed a wave early Friday and then more Friday night and Saturday?? North GA. I'm so lost lol. Everyone saying something totally different on the networks here

Thats most of the local news in house model.  Always shows very little

Jeff Hill totally said "some models show huge amounts like 3 to 4" but that's not gonna happen" then showed the RPM

Is that from the first wave and then another wave brings snow on Fri night and Sat morning ?

I gotta get to my bed. I'm gonna be sleepy tomorrow if I don't. See you guys later.

Actually three to four inches is realistic in the higher convective snow bands.

I will say this...whether I was right or wrong...I did show models for sure, but I ALWAYS made my own forecast...ie maps...I always thought if you want someone to believe you and trust your forecast, you have to do the work and make your own forecasted map for the storm...

I can't tell you how many times the Atlanta news stations does this. They are extremely conservative 3 days out. Always have been. Especially Fox 5. I would much rather get my information on here than any of the media outlets.

Yeah he was. Great guy but wow was he conservative. It really annoyed me. Of course maybe its best to be conservative when you forecast for a city that averages about 2" per year.
