Hrrr starts precip around 6pm as rain here. Def could see a start as drizzle or sleet with below freezing wet bulbs and 34-36 sfc temps

So happy for you all there. Never thought this would be as much of a performer as it’s been in central Bama!
 
Probably freezing rain and sleet now.

The snow for a bit was a nice surprise. Think it's mainly been freezing rain/sleet, but I probably saw the heaviest snow shower I've seen since Feb 2015 in NW GA (I'm working, and kind of wish I wasn't).

It's causing a lot of roadway problems in the Augusta area if you look at Google Maps.

Edit: I have to say, the RGEM absolutely nailed the idea of a heavy band. Absolutely locked in.

Yeah, I mean even taken as all sleet that’s around an inch and a half of sleet, which is no joke and pretty significant impact wise. Or if it’s half/half you’re talking 3-4” of wintry mix. Even 25:75 is 2-3” of concrete.
 
We have about 2" in Athens so far. -1C presently. It's shifted from snow to sleet to fr rain, and not coming down much right now at all.

I ventured out in my F350 diesel a while ago.. have 500lb weight in the bed, snow/mud tires and 4 wheel drive so I'm not getting stuck. Rescued two other women who were in small cars and stuck on hills. One was crying her eyes out , got her unstuck and on her way home, she was going home from work.
 
30 degrees with freezing rain. Or should I say melting rain? Melting has commenced with the overcast daylight. I think any accumulating ZR will be at the tree-top levels until late afternoon if it manages to stay sub freezing.

There was a shift south with the "snow line". The 1.6" & 1.9" showing in Charlotte and Raleigh would be a frozen mixed concrete.

My final forecast for MBY (N Chapel Hill) is 2-3”, ~2” at RDU, 1-2” in Raleigh-proper, and 3-4” at @BullCityWx’s winter wonderland in N Durham (😂). Could easily see more, or less. Tough forecast and I’m not a met lol. All areas get snow, but all mix with IP/ZR with more mixing towards Raleigh. Don’t see more than 0.1” ice accrual, and probably not even that much.

Also 3-4” for GSO and 1-2” for CLT.

it is very light rain here. I see ice and water dripping from the tree limbs.
