Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

Admission: I’ve been using the term “Jeb walk” on forums for over a decade without even knowing the origin of the term. The lore in my mind is that there was a grizzled poster named Jeb who was known for heading out for a stroll in the absolute worst conditions, but that pretty much describes all of us.

What’s the true story behind this one?
The official explanation from the one and only Jebman dated January 25, 2011.
Technically a jebwalk is a walk done in the snow while blasting your favorite music of choice on your iPhone headphones, usually for hours on end. It is best done in a blizzard environment, with freezing temps, high winds and blinding snow rates.

I see some folks are allowing their frustrations of snowy weather get the best of 'em per the recent post of Storm in the "Posting Suspension" thread. We all love and want snow or we wouldn't regularly be on here throughout the winter months. In the grand scheme of things, it ain't that serious in which people lose their cool and whatnot. I'll say it again.... If folks want snow THAT BADLY then move to Vermont or Maine.

By the way, I do hope someone find Flo and lock him up in a basement somwhere in south Florida or South America. Keep him away from the Midlands! Obviously, he's brought his mojo to the CSRA. GeorgiaGirl and Faco, ya'll better find him quick and get him outta your backyard!

If anyone is familiar with the movie, "Bronx Tale," then they'll understand this gif and how it relates to Flo, LOL:

Man, I'm tired.

I didn't think I did a lot last night. Certainly, didn't hike in the cold, just walked a bit in the yard to feel out the conditions. And I usually go to sleep fairly late anyway.

My week's actually not completely over yet. I have one more assignment that I need to do (this one isn't in the stuff that I was horrible at last semester). Then I'll spend the rest of the weekend just contemplating things.

Yeah didn’t mean to piss anyone off .. was simply pointing out that no model supports a winter event for anyone in the SE for the Tuesday system .. other than a long range NAM .. who isn’t even right inside 48 hours(this past event) .. I was given crap for asking for a thread for a threat at 200 with some model support on all three major globals which I think is understandable given 200+ is still far out .. so just tryna clear the air on what is thread worthy for mods?

I feel for some of you guys in the western areas of the south especially some of the Deep South areas seems like the story so far this year is most of the winter storms has been towards the Carolinas and far eastern areas… I really do hope you guys towards say I-10 and south of I-20 get a chance to score before winter is over

Yo who’s account is this? I got everyday weenies on my FB sharing this lol

The funny thing about morons like this.... is I was watching the weather channel live yesterday and even they are making fun of those type. If the weather channel is talking crap about you, you're in some serious trouble.

I mean many eastern areas have done quite well(including even Columbia) this winter. However I live in Aiken(which is near Augusta) didnt receive much last night. Same goes for Augusta/Macon. Those places haven't received 2 or more inches of snow since 2014. Atlanta hasn't done well netiher, From what I heard, New Bern and Kill Devils(the northern Outer Banks ) also didn't get much snow last night nether from what I heard. So there's definitely some eastern places in Georgia and the Carolinas that are capable of snowing decently more than once every decade like the ones I mentioned that hasn't gotten a decent hit so far.

I didn't know what or who Storm was referring to in regard to his post. I just assumed (that's what I get for assuming, lol) it was in relation to folks being ticked about snowy weather or lack of and was voicing displeasure for threads starting too early.

So, no biggie, Nicky. It's all good.

I definitely could have drove to the gym but I walked instead . I wish for gods sake we built walkable towns . That was a rough walk. Took me 35ish minutes . Not gon walk back getting a ride back lol. Unless I change my mind and end up hiking more
That's the problem with most of the towns in Wake County. They all sprawl all over the place instead of concentrating the commercial activity in one central, easily accessible location. This is the reason the 0.5 transit tax we pay now in Wake County in conjunction with the NC Sales Tax is a ripoff. Public transportation will never be used by the great majority of residents because the places they need to go are too spread out to be connected to any kind of public transportation network. Not to mention that this sprawl is eating away our greenspace.

Us Birmingham people have really whiffed though. The new year system only received barely a dusting. And then the next one just a cold long rain lol.
I remember when I lived in Birmingham there was a period where we didn't have snow for 7 years.

Yes and it’s all financed by debt which is the scary part for me . What happens when our industrial output and population growth can no longer finance those debt payments ? I think we have a bit of a warped view in America on how towns could be built . Everything is built for the car, how that came to be is a very interesting and rather corrupt story , as all stories involving government subsidies are… Virginia has some interesting compact small towns . Charlottesville for example has 50k people in 10 sq miles . it’s 3 miles from each end of town . Yet Charlottesville is still very nice looking and doesn’t feel like or look like a big city . There is a happy medium between sprawled out hell and compact nyc nightmares .

Yeah I was under the impression that Huntsville did pretty well in previous storms, especially the one right after New Years. What’s their average yearly snowfall?

Lol 2.4 inches. They've already had their snow basically

Meanwhile mine is 8.6 and I've had a dusting. Officially 0.1

I’ve been a member here since the site started and I’ve never had a run in with a Mod or gotten in trouble once. Following the rules here is so easy, and I don’t see how anyone can’t follow the rules.

You can’t fix stupid.
Exactly, I been around since a lot of these guys were at TW and I think they do a great job. Definitely put up with alot of craziness lol.

I’m not going to lie but up here so far it’s been a down year winter wise compared to last year. I know I stay all the way up close to the Pacific Northwest but our yearly snowfall for the season at least up here in Billings has been down.. we haven’t had more than 5 inches of snow for the season those graph charts they are displaying is wrong….also there have been a lot of busted forecast when it comes to snow…. Yeah I should be grateful in terms of seeing snow but not being able to not get one 4 or 5 inch snow kinda sucks when there’s places that has had a better winter overall south west and east of this area… and yes I know climo wise up winter is not over but the pattern in this area has sucked gooseballs

Forecaster Vaughn at FFC - Ya didn’t have to word things like this. Ya could have simply said “this removes any chance of wintery…” and left off the completely unnecessary “Woo!”.

But no. You had to be THAT forecaster. I hope we have at least one decent Atlanta winter weather event this stupid winter, and Vaughn has an abosultely miserable time with it.

Lol I don't need another last winter. That was too much for me honestly and I knew we weren't going to repeat that(I've said it a bunch of times to local weather friends I know). I just need one solid snowstorm. I thought last Saturday was gonna do it and be an inch or two but then it stopped

Another thing too... I mean living in Dallas snow was never a guarantee heck I almost went 6 years without seeing it there but I'm in a place where every winter has had something up here and only a handful haven't even had an inch in 120 years

That's the nirvana look we are looking for in the eastern half/third of the SE in this setup. Check out how far south the 540 line is
