Misc 2021-22 Fall/Winter Whamby Thread

I hate BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Notre Dame, and Louisville being in the ACC. I hate what has happened with conference expansion. I wish instead the Power 5 schools had just left the NCAA and form their own athletic association. That would give them 65 schools. They could have broken it down to 8 regions with 8 schools, and let Notre Dame be an independent if they wanted. Then you could play everyone in your region in football and twice in basketball. Then all the teams could play in a basketball tournament with a play-in game for the 64th entry, and have an 8 team playoff for football. Now it's too late with conference expansion again and non Power 5 schools joining traditional Power 5 conferences.

I could never go to another State Game again. Went to one back in '10. Being an FSU fan, a bunch of us were tailgating together, and on the walk in, we had to walk by the parking lot next to the stadium and it was packed with State tailgators. You know when you break up a bag of ice from the gas station how you get those big chunks of ice? Yea, the State fans (Mostly students) were throwing those and a full beer cans at us too.

Yeah I drove down for that game with my dad. We used to love going to away ACC games. The Big Ten thing is so weird and we have no rivals anymore. I hate it. Basketball too, it's just not the same. Especially with us living down here now we would be able to see so many games. Maryland and State always felt like they had some similarities in the ACC you always felt like second class citizens to the UNC and Dukes etc.

Just looked it up MD vs NCSU all time 33 wins, 33 losses 4 ties in football.

I loved when you guys were good at Bball and would beat them bc God knows we can't. A state vs Maryland football series would be awesome

I don't mind pitt and lville being in the conference and ND needs to either go all in or drop the affiliation they have. You have to think at some point the P5 looks out of the ncaa but the media turn on for the mid major right now may be enough to keep it from happening soon

ACC is the coastal elite league anyways with Boston and Pitt and cuse in it . Makes me dislike it , wonder if we can poach WVU as the Big 12 collapses . Give us an exciting team . Playing Boston college doesn’t excite nobody.

Honestly WVU has one of the largest fan bases for schools not inside North Carolina here . Feel like I see tons of WVU stickers on cars . Makes sense , bring West Virginia here . Plus they are good at basketball. They also have some rivalries with Pitt just up the road .

Wv wouldn't be a bad choice, Cincinnati would have been a decent immediate choice. I would assume with tv shares being such a big driver in the reasoning they would look at TTU/Baylor maybe Kansas

When they talked about WVU back In the day the Academics supposedly weren't good enough but doubt anybody cares much anymore as long as it means more $$$.

Ehhh , I mean wake forest , duke , unc , uva , bc I mean with all those schools the grades will be just fine . WVU can’t be that bad, it’s the state of West Virginia’s flagship school.

I think thats the problem is there is a pretty high standard in ACC schools and WVU is like 250th nationally. They like to be able to say all our schools are top 80 nationally etc. I was surprised they were that low too.

The ACC isn’t going to get better at sports if it’s focused on a stat like that though. Adding a team like WVU far outweighs any loss we have from no longer being able to say that. Heck I wouldn’t be surprised if we had the highest academic standing and still kept it with WVU. Also geez 250? Lol I’m surprised .

I know you are being facetious a bit but objectively speaking even ITP is not that urban at all. Anywhere with single family homes on wide streets with lawns and heavy tree cover is objectively suburban. Also what the hell , there’s a TON of empty lots sitting right next to downtown . How is that possible in a city like Atlanta that land like that just sits there . It highlights why Atlanta is so spread out . I noticed a similar thing in Houston and dallas with vast areas of open land in downtown despite the metro covering tons of area . In Raleigh any open lot is scooped up fast in downtown . That’s some terrible city design on Atlanta’s part though I’d wager a lot of it is NIMBYism. Got to love inner city liberals NIMBYs, want affordable housing in the city but not in their backyard .
