Funny thing... the wife and I have been discussing moving either back to my hometown in Michigan or Wyoming. I can get plenty of winter there.
Michigan gets too much snow for me. My ideal place to live is somewhere that gets roughly 10 to 20 inches per year. Enough to make you happy but not so much that you get sick of it.

I grew up in Ishpeming which is in western Marquette County in the Upper Peninsula. We lived near Teal Lake. The ski jump hall of fame and ski jump practice area is there. We were only about 15 air miles from Lake Superior. It’s snowing there right now as I type this with a temperature of 33°. Better chance of snow on Tuesday with about 3” expected.

I remember my junior year and homecoming. At 8am that Friday the temp was 53°. My the time school got out it was 35°. By game time at 7pm it was snowing. By halftime it was damn near whiteout conditions. From the center of the field you could barely see the sidelines. You couldn’t see one sideline while you were standing on the other. By the time it stopped snowing Monday afternoon we had like 23”. Of course school was in. LOL

You lived in the UP! Epic ! The scenery there is amazing in Lake Superior I bet . So much outdoors stuff to do, if only it was slightly warmer instead of having 7 month winters! I can deal with a nice 4 season climate but not the borderline subarctic climates along Lake Superior . Think especially moderated spots along Lake Superior actually just barely miss the Humid continental threshold and are subarctic .

I have lived all over the country. From Arizona to Ohio and everywhere in between.
Nice , for the longest time I thought you were like 15 till you mentioned old bones and cold in a post lol. I have never lived anywhere but North Carolina , although I used to live south of the Charlotte Motor Speedway my first 7 years of living !

Seen snow mid October to early May. Everyone up there had hunting and fishing camps. The main employer when I was there was the iron ore mines. Only worked six or seven months out of the year. The rest of the time they were drunk at their camps. High alcoholism rate up there. Could hunt all winter and fish year round. Put up an ice shanty and go to it. Great hunting though.
