I’m offended this site has the word SOUTHERN in its name!! Do y’all not know the history of the south?!?
Now UNLV is changing their mascot, why? It seems like the running rebels is ok. Just give the mascot a white flag and it would be historically accurate

It gives the jury an easy acquittal path in that prosecution has to prove intent. That's going to be hard to do

Could be, but it could also be an attempt to get a quick plea deal down or try to at least stick something in court.

Question: Is Star Wars gonna need some renaming of things in it now? As much as Mark Hammil is for social justice, he cant stand being called a rebel right?

Plea deal......gonna piss some folks off but its plea down or nothing in my mind

We see this in other areas of culture too. I was reading an article recently about a woman who was pulled over for carrying an infant in her lap in the front seat and how she was completely vilified on social media with people saying she was horrible person, that she deserved to have her kids taken, and even taking a moral stance on the issue. Yet, I wonder how many of those people would have reacted that way 40 or 50 years ago before car seats. Parents were told then that holding an infant in your lap in the front seat was the safest and best way to hold them then, and that same mother would have been commended for being responsible and caring.

Now I'm not trying (at all) to imply that this would excuse slavery, but it does show how quickly we can become self-righteous and judgmental. Our culture has reached new heights in that regard.
I feel where you’re coming from regarding sensitivity these days in general, but air bags completely changed the game with regards to infants in that position. The air bags deploying could very well kill an infant on a mother’s lap I would think, whereas 40 years ago there were no air bags at all.

But yeah social media mobs are terrible. I don’t support that.

I think the point he was trying to make is that there are things we think are fine and acceptable now that may not be in another era. He wasn't defending her actions in today's environment.

Brooks didnt grab a taser in his drunk mind, he grabbed a gun. His intentions were to turn and fire the weapon he had in his hands. This is a rush to judgement and clear overcharge in my opinion. I would be surprised if it even goes to trial. With that being said Atlanta will at some point be trashed and burnt
Atlanta gets what they deserve and what they have voted in for decades.. the cop was protecting his self from being tazed. This is utter stupidity. Now people will know if Trump wins why he wins even though he is such an ass.

Yeah, I edited my post a bit. I agree with the sentiment. People are too damn sensitive these days about this kind of stuff.

Ive said this many times as you can attest to...lol. Im a military man. I want Col. Nathan Jessup on my wall. Sometimes you have to be an SOB and fight when you are dealing with the left wing in this country. They hate capitalism, success and American exceptionalism

While we are on the subject of law enforcement. A couple of years ago I was driving, pulled in a convenient store to get some gas. Got out of my car, getting ready to put my card in the slot when I saw a cop with his hands on his holster telling me "Sir, get back in your car and put your hands on the steering wheel NOW!!!!!" It scared the crap out of me, I got back in my car as he said and then he proceeded to ask me "Do you know why I pulled you over?" I said "No sir officer (thinking to myself I didn't even realize I was being pulled over-no sirens lights or anything). The cop said "a large sheet of snow fell off your car and landed right in front of me when I was behind you, next time you drive out, make sure you completely clean the snow off your car." I said, absolutely, thank you officer.

But that scared the crap out of me. Have no idea how some people can see an officer with a gun and proceed to talk ---- to them.

That is my point. Not sure either wanted to prosecute.

Just finishing what Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman started.

Seems the officer that shot Brooks has been involved in other shootings including one they failed to report.....why would cops shoot someone and then not report it...so while I agree murder is a overstep these previous events may have played into it....

In August 2015, Rolfe and two other officers opened fire on Jackie Jermaine Harris, who they chased after he was caught driving a stolen truck, the Guardian can reveal after reviewing court documents on the incident.

Harris rammed a police vehicle and officers shot at him several times inside the truck, striking Harris once and collapsing his lung. Harris survived and later pleaded guilty to charges including theft, property damage, fleeing arrest and damaging a police vehicle.

Judge Doris L Downs, during a 2016 court hearing, called the case a “disaster” and said “it’s the wildest case I’ve seen in my 34 years here.”

Downs said she was so troubled by officers failing to report the shooting that she wanted the matter investigated.

“None of the police put in the report that they shot the man – none of them. And they sent him to Grady [Memorial Hospital] with collapsed lungs and everything, and the report doesn’t mention it,” Downs said.

“I am ethically going to be required to turn all of them in.”

Downs even suggested state and federal authorities get involved.

Rolfe was the subject of four citizen’s complaints during his six years on the force, none of which were sustained by police. The department disciplined him for three other incidents, including once for “use of force” involving a firearm, a year after the Harris shooting.

I’m torn but in this case, in the end, I don’t think deadly force should have been used. What this guy did doesn’t deserve the death penalty. Which is what he got.

the cop also shouldn't be charged with murder. Some charge should be leveled but that isn’t it either.

Yeah if some of the things that I've heard today are true, I think reckless charges are reasonable here and would stick, plus Rolfe may not be that great of a guy, but those 11 charges are ridiculous, it's overcharging, and I can't see it standing up in court if it even goes there.

This guy should never be a cop or be allowed to own a gun again but prison I'm not sure of definitely no death penalty
