Pattern Microwave March

That's the kind of thing that the coldest March 850's overall in 15-19 years in the SE will do. He will be flirting with the coldest so late in the season. He will obliterate the 32 3/16 daily record low. Here, too, there will be a chance for the coldest so late.

By the way, this March is trying to behave somewhat like March of 1932 and March of 1890, both of which followed two of the three warmest winters in Atlanta and many areas.
Did I get sleet? Either time? There is a patch of precip way back west that's make a bee line right for me, and I'm at 36 at 9:30. I'll have to try to wish me up some pellets :) T

With the way it is with how the plants have bloomed, this hard freeze that is coming might threaten April 2007 (I did say might). My dad told me the only time we did not have blueberries was thanks to the 2007 late hard freeze and that the bushes are almost finished blooming and are berries (which actually might be worse).

He hopes that the fact that they're not facing the north thanks to them being straight behind the house will save them.

And well, if the berries do survive it sounds like we might have blueberries in late April. Just crazy. The berries might die but if they don't they're going to be ready at least a month early.

I had a bumper crop the next year, buckets and buckets, and for once they were sweet. I'm tempted to leave them uncovered to see if lightening will strike twice. 24 or 26 and light wind here will get some stuff. I hope the mosquitoes and fleas have been coming up from what ever part of hell they reside in. The last two years were like the tundra here.... I'd like to see if they can find some coats real fast :) Them and their tick buddies.

Your best bet to get sleet would be to get the poster, Corey, to do a special sleet dance. The man is quite powerful, even more powerful than your moles, believe it or not! He may even have a ZR dance for all I know.

By the way, check out the grand solar minimum thread for sunspot updates (within Space Wx section). The sun is on a whopping nine day spotless streak and we're still likely 3-4 years from minimum!

Edit: I just took a fantastic walk in the upper 40's with windchill in the 30's. I had my ski cap, coat, gloves, and corduroy pants on. It felt so refreshing!

LOL. I only dance for snow though.

Currently 27 with a windchill of 16, can you imagine if we would've gotten this type of air-mass in January with a good snow pack to our north

This will be a fun day for tracking the highs, which are expected to be near 20 below normal! This is about 10 below the coldest normal highs of early to mid January as normals have increased about 10 since then.

Got down around 25 last night, and only supposed to be in the mid to low 40s and mid to upper 30s across the Upper South. Definitely not March weather, especially after the mega torch of February, this month has been anything but a microwave.

Low here this morning 22... pretty cold. By next week things start to cha 've towards Warner stormy pattern... system late next week needs watched for severe wx... especially the western part of the South midsouth regions... looks potent...not sure how far the threat will go East. But time to watch for sure...

I see the SPC is already somewhat mentioning this threat.

Anyone is Georgia still seeing snow flurries? I would really love to see some during the daylight hours. It's sunny here though right north of Atlanta.

We had a light dusting at the house this morning that almost looked like frost. Saw a few flurries yesterday but didn't expect to see anything on the ground this morning.

Here's hoping some cooler than normal temps stick around to finish up this crazy month ... LOL

Honestly I don't care much for below normal temps in Late March. Summer is when I want below normal temps.

Maybe March will start a streak of 13 months in a row below normal!? One can dream.....

It was. Just wish we were still in February with another shot at a winter storm.
Me too! My wife and I have been talking for years about moving to the northeast because of how much we love the cold and hate the heat. After this horrible winter and Now a cold march it has driven us to seriously start the process of looking at houses in the northeast. Now I won't be moving up there in the next few months but I've made up my mind that I'll be trying to get up there by the 2018/2019 winter.

Only up to 48 at noon in Gainesville, FL on 3/15! Pure awesomeness from my perspective! Should only reach mid 50's for the high.
Only 34 here at 12:42 pm. We had about 17 hours of freezing temps. The fact that it's this cold with a strong March sun is impressive.

If you move up there you may get sick of the cold and snow ! I think my ideal place would be somewhere like Virginia that gets snow every year but doesn't get so much snow that you get tired of it.

I could see shoveling snow getting old but not the cold. I absolutely love it when it's bone chilling cold even if there's no snow on the ground. I will take highs in the teens and twenties over 80 and sunny any day of the week. It's definitely something I've been considering and weighing the pros and cons on for the last 5-6 years.

Honestly I think you're in the perfect place. You normally get a decent amount of snow every winter. You are getting older and I don't think you want to deal with shoveling snow all the time. You could really hurt your back. Plus, driving in snow sucks !

I just went to the top of Lookout Mountain Sunday and saw some snow there which was nice. Can't imagine what it would of been like in the northeast when the blizzard moved in. I have some relatives in upstate NY that got over 2 feet of snow up there!

The problem as I see it with moving to the NE for more snow is that snow is ordinary up there. The higher expectations then lead to things like what was mentioned here about the Mid-Atlantic folks whining about "only" getting 6-8". It is the novelty of snow in the SE that I love the most about it. For a similar reason, I'd choose to be here for, say, 1" vs., say, 3" at ATL or 6" at RDU.

Very true. One thing that makes snow so special in the south is because it's so rare. I think if I lived up north eventually it would just get old and by Feb or March I would probably be sick of it. However, I think i would like to live a little further north to a place that averages close to 10" a winter. I think Nashville or Raleigh would be ideal. Atlanta, IMO, just doesn't get snow often enough. I mean it's been 3 years since there's been a snow of any significance.

Good luck! My wife is from Montana and hates the cold. I think I could get her to move back there, but as much as I love the cold I don't think I would like that kind of cold. At least I don't live in Florida anymore. 18 years of 95 degrees and a billion perfect humidity for 9 months of the year was enough for me.

At least I did get one really good snow this year and Christmas wasn't a massive torch like in 2015.

Made it down to 24.2 this morning even though it remained cloudy with snow flurries almost all night long (and even this morning as well). There was a light coating of flurries on the ground earlier. Currently sitting at 35.2 this hour. Winds are gusty as well today.

Don't move to Raleigh if you want to see 10" of snow a winter. I live just SE of Raleigh and the last 2 winters I've gotten less than 1" of snow each winter. It's been years since I've had over a 4" snowfall. On top of that it's very rare that we see all snow. It's usually a slopfest of snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

I moved to Raleigh in 2010 from Orlando. It snowed so much including the big 2010 Christmas storm that I thought I was in heaven. Then reality hit and we would always get much more sleet than snow. Lived in the Triad since 2013, we do get more snow than the Triangle. Still we get lots of sleet. I hate sleet.

Pretty well says it for MBY - the rest of y'all have had your fun this week, so feel like sharin'
If the wind dies down - it'll be colder ....

Know folks are tripping on this cold weather for march... but man 12z Euro is a dangerous set up taking place if correct late next week... trough on this run just got broader... model consistency with this system has been great... this system has my attention. To the fullest...again the western. Portion. If the lower ms valley stand to be the brunt of this but today's Euro could put folks further East In to play as well...
