Misc Catch All Dieting Thread

I'm of the mindset that you (not you personally) need to decide what you really want to do. For instance, what is the motivation for running (or for anything)? Because you love it or because you believe it's the right thing to do it or because you feel some sort of obligation to it (maybe you used to be a super runner or super in shape or super good at something and you just long for the good old days)? If it's the first or second, then you won't have much of a problem. If it's the latter, or something like it, that's where we usually find trouble.

I can say I want to do something day long. The fact that I don't do it tells me objectively, that I really, deep down, value something more. And I think at some point, we need to realize that's ok. I guess my overall point is, if something takes a ton of motivation to do, then it feels like the pressure to do it is misaligned with reason to do it.

For me, I run, not because I like it, but because it's about the only healthy activity I have regular time for. Therefore, it takes a lot of motivation for me to do it. My motivation is that I don't want to be unhealthy and lazy. God has given me the health and ability to do it, and therefore, I will honor that by doing it. Since I have no desire to run marathons, a reasonable distance/time is all I need to commit to. If I miss a day because of weather or some extenuating circumstance, I don't care. There are too many more important things to care about. I just go tomorrow. And during the winter, I just enjoy not running, enjoying the extra time to do something more fun.

Reading this back, I'm sure that this is not going to be a helpful motivator, so I will stop now! :)
Ok....So about this virtual running (exercising) group, you in or out?

Haha I guess I'm probably out...but reserve the right to pop in from time to time and cheer you on!

Larry,

Wanna pipe in on walking?

Me waking birds every morning and you keeping the rodents away with your treadmill ... LOL

Nothing beats walking for me! I had a great one last evening when it was in the high 50s and dewpoints near 50. I’m about to do another walk but haven’t yet decided between outside and treadmill. Dewpoints are 15 warmer while temps are 10 warmer. So, not nearly as comfy although there is a little breeze tonight vs calm last night. Also, treadmill much more convenient! Decisions, decisions.

My trainer said not to run unless you want to be a runner. If you have time to run you have time to do wall sits, planks, butterfly kicks, starfishes, calf raises, etc. I’m down to 207 pounds.

At 5’2”, not bad!
I love starfishes and I follow your trainers advice

Down to 194. With more muscle now too. Really into the quest bars now, Amazon has the pumpkin pie flavor 55% off currently. I wanna get down to 175 before I can start bulking.

I wonder if you are allowed to bulk at bojangles

Hey guys.. Did really well with Keto the first time around and lost 40lbs before I got lazy and went back to old habits. Started again Monday this week at 377.8lbs and I’m already down to 371.2lbs.. I took a new job last month that will allow me to pre plan my lunch meals instead of being tempted by what fast food place was off the highway so I’m excited to stick with it this time..

I've got to change something up.. I work out 5 days a week and I'm not getting the same results as I used to when I was younger

I made a lot of changes last year. Water is the only drink I order when I’m out. My cheat days (once a week sometimes) may include lemonade or koolaid. Also started doing black coffee..takes awhile to get use to it.

Eating out..I’m okay with grilled rainbow trout at Cracker Barrel or some grilled teriyaki shrimp at Red Lobster. But most places there is little to no options for me..(namely Applebee’s sucks big time). And those Zaxbys salads are quiet awful in calories. Also don’t step foot in Mexican places since they don’t list calories.

Prob not a option for most people..but I increased my intake of deer meat tenfold. You can easily season ground deer for spaghetti, Chile beans, etc. Down to a few deer loins left and they are good too. If I have to buy ground beef or turkey it’s 93% lean or better..

I also stock up on zero calorie mustard. I don’t miss ranch anymore or need it on anything.
