A “point and laugh room” isn’t constructive and will likely just hurt the forum. I have to say, this thread does not impress me and I completely get it's purpose and have joined in some, but honestly, it does feel like a cheap shot room. I mean I could make fun of almost everyone on this board if that's what folks want. I can't tell you how much bad/wrong information I scroll by everyday, and then like you said, to have cheap shot after cheap shot taken towards folks adding real value -- or their ideas -- is not good for this board. Also, how does this look to a first time visitor if they happen to visit this thread first? I can tell you, if it were me, I'd never come back again.

I completely understand where you are coming from and pretty much feel the same way. This thread was created as an experiment, so it's good to hear some different opinions about it. Maybe we should attach a WARNING to the thread title???

That, and maybe figure out a way to not have it as the top thread when you enter General Weather. Again, a first time visitor would be led to click on it first, and I don't think this is the impression we'd like a new visitor -- imagine a coveted poster we'd like to get from AmericanWx or an Allan Huffman etc -- to get first. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. Cheap shots at this point are going to get deleted and I'm sure other mods and the admin here will agree. This is a WHINING ABOUT YOUR BACKYARD AND THE WEATHER THREAD. Not a "This member smells like raw sewage" thread.

At the same time, I believe there should be standards to uphold no matter what thread you’re in on southernwx. That’s why a lot of us choose to be here and not AmWx, after all.

Y’all do make points, This website is not meant for us to hate on each other, it’s suppose to be a good atmosphere in here and if we don’t like it just ignore each other, but at the end of the day, we all need to agree with each other so we can all learn and make this the best weather forum in America
 
I don’t see how taking a blatant jab in here is any different than a educated weather person responding to a less knowledgeable poster in the main thread with a condescending smart aleck tone. I could argue that the later would be more likely to turn someone off to weather as everyone wants to participate and be heard without being made look like a dumbass

Maybe a warning label? This thread is what it is, I can see how a real Met can get offended by some post but you also know 99% of it is BS and meant as fun. We are all adults in here. I haven’t seen anything that seemed over the line yet. As my dad always said if you can’t handle the heat get out of the fire. I think the Mods have handled this thread really well and it’s obviously a popular place. Is there a ignore button for a whole thread? Maybe that would help? I don’t know the answers since I’m just a avg joe but so far it’s been pretty tamed I think.

  1. Don't know what anyone is talking about in the main thread
  2. It might rain tonight

I can handle the heat just fine. Maybe I'll just turn it up to 11 - I'm pretty sure I'll be banned or derail this thread in under a day. But how does that look to a new visitor who knows nothing about this site and reads this stuff first? Is that the impression we want them getting of the best SouthernWx has to offer?

That’s why a warning label might work, kinda like enter at your own risk? I’m just spit balling here. If you want to take it to 11 then do it but I don’t think anyone is giving you or Web a hard time with personal attacks.

Good point. I think if you guys would point out how it's going to be 33 and rain in the Upstate more often it would really help the pattern discussion threads reach new heights. I know that's why I come here - to see if this pattern is going to be 33 and rain in two posters backyards.

MAYBE, some posters should put in a little more effort to add some quality discussion instead of repetitive babble. If I were admin, if I saw that post more than once a day you'd be banned from posting the rest of the day. Better hope that never happens.
