Gfs is not as aggressive as European model was

That's actually not true, the GFS just alters how the initial wave interacts with the PV lobe coming down from Canada, it comes in 2 waves instead of all at once with the 2nd wave of arctic air being far more intense and comparable to what the Euro showed.

The one time in recent years historic with regards to cold would hold some water. It's been decades since we've had subzero lows here and I've never seen highs in the teens that I can remember, only low 20s. This is January 1985 type cold. Funny enough it hasn't been that long since we've had single digit lows in Atlanta though, January 2015 was the last time that happened.
 
I believe if we see snow it be the beginning. Around the 27-28th or at the end of the cold in February

That would be great, to get a big time snow then have that extreme cold for that long
