Wintry Winter 2018-19 Discussion

Personally, I'd like a seasonable December and hopefully a seasonable February. December down here is similar to September in the sense that it's more of a transitional month and expecting a snowy December outside the mountains is unrealistic. And recently it seems like we've lost February as a winter month so I hope that changes this year.

As for types of storms, I'd like a big event with warning level amounts of all three p-types, and multiple flizzard/light accumulation events that don't warrant any advisories at all.

Your dream is much like a Weak Nino composite and we’re headed that way.

Hopefully it’s a weak El Niño

And not a Moderate

Feb will be rocking AND you’d get your cold December.

Very much like the thought of all that. Thanks for posting!

So did the CanSIPS ever run? I don’t see where it updated for it’s Sept run...

It’s September 3rd and it’s still hot. Oh no winter cancel! I’m Joking of course but I seem to remember last November that some people were already screaming winter cancel. It will probably happen again as soon as we have a few warm days this November. It’s one of the many things that makes fall and winter the best times of the year though. I said this last season and it held true in that There’s no reason to start worrying about a snowless winter until mid to late January.

Heck, if it was 75 on Christmas but had a 6 inch snowstorm in January, I would still call it a winter.
Sounds like Christmas of Jan 87, which lead to Jan 8 of 1988! I’ll take it too!

Also, a lot of signs pointing to a copious amount of blocking as well with a pretty continuous -NAO. Whether that actually happens, based on what has occurred the past 10-15 years, is open for debate
