Pattern Jarring January

Canadian is a no go, but if we can rely on anything from the Canadian model it is for it to bring the cold. According to it, were back into the freezer by next weekend.

Can we get this thing to trend east?

Looks like a frontal passage, then a low forming on the front. Plenty of time to teen S and E

Best thing about this storm, it looks to put us back into a colder pattern afterwards!

cold air returns

Gfs is cold so far.

That cold snap actually looks like one of those quick snaps that Larry was talking about in which he thinks we'll likely have from now on. Then again it's the long range GFS and for all we know it might have beach weather on it's next run.

I agree

Yeah. If you like cold. Dry weather. Bring that 1056. On. Squash city
Cold is most important equation in a winter storm. Could we track 5 storms that end up squashed, of course! But a 0% chance if you have temps in the 70s

Rule of thumb for everyone east of mtns in NC, is you don't want the wave to close off until atleast it passes the mouth of the Mississippi river. It closes off before then it will run the apps. Of course if we can get the squash factor/ press thing to continue then that might change some ole rules of thumbs up. One thing about this winter is there hasn't been any shortage of 1040 to 1050 hps coming down. We have a fast flow and it makes it harder to amp and turn waves, time things out easier. But Im content to keep this up. Keep giving me the cold and eventually it will work out no doubt.

JB says cold comes back, after a few days of thaw, then arcticgeddon the sequel returns after initial return to cold. Good times ahead!

Yes, it's very typical for us to get 2 day cold snaps and then quick warm up to rain. Timing will be very important. I'm growing more concerned about the lack of precipitation of any kind.
