Ukraine

We will see. I think this will be like our invasion of Iraq. It will go very quickly. As far afterward Europe needs Russia and this will be forgotten very soon. Russia is very good at installing compliant govts. Poland and East Germany were eventually free but it took 45 years.
Ukraine is far more capable than Iraq ever was.

The next 2 days will let us know
Militias are pretty good at fending off stuff. Consider militias in the past they have a fairly good track record especially when working on there home turf that the enemy is not used too.

Nevermind. It looks like Ukraine is folding. This will be over in a few days and they will all be Russian again. Next stop Lithuania.
Yea, i just dont think they will fight much. They know thay have no friends. And again we ARE NOT serious nor is Europe. As Russia takes Ukraine, or part of it, we are purchasing Russian energy at very high prices thus financing what we condemn.

China is definitely testing the waters, these are extremely fragile and volatile times. No surprise though right?
No surprise at all though invading Taiwan is far different than Ukraine. China has to either get there by sea and or airborne invasion. They will only be able to do it if Biden signals them he is removing the fleet from the straits of Taiwan.

Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but from the vantage point of the past few weeks, this is not surprising.

I was thinking more along the line of "volatile times" and from the perspective of your day job. #wrongthread ;)

Thread. No. 2 is concerning and something I've thought about, wars sometimes start b/c of "accidents" or miscalculations. That's playing with fire right there

In case you don't or can't read the thread, here is No. 2, scary

Exactly. The chances of it happening are small, but if it does it’s a slippery slope towards Armageddon.

It probably will not happen, however, IF and it's a big IF, but if it did occur there would have to be serious analysis of intel to determine if intentional or purely accidental. It's far more complicated than that I'm sure but let's just pray it doesn't happen

Forgot where I saw it on twitter (also saw it in this thread while I was just lurking), but I think removing Russia from the sports leagues they're in is a great idea if it is true that it is a big thing for them.

It would really hurt psychologically if so.

Ukraine should be annexed by Russia because "Ukraine as a state has no geopolitical meaning, no particular cultural import or universal significance, no geographic uniqueness, no ethnic exclusiveness, its certain territorial ambitions represents an enormous danger for all of Eurasia and, without resolving the Ukrainian problem, it is in general senseless to speak about continental politics". Ukraine should not be allowed to remain independent, unless it is cordon sanitaire, which would be inadmissible.

You can also see where Putin might strike next. He seems to be following this book to a tee so far.

Why is the ukraine president just now calling for mobilization of all troops . Jesus that should have been done days ago

It seems like the Ukrainian government was in denial about this up until the very last minute. I don’t understand why they didn’t order a general mobilization a week or two ago. I’d say it’s been pretty clear this was going to happen for at least a week now.

They were probably afraid it could be seen as "provoking" them, but now we know the truth.

Either way, it now looks like Russia's strategy involves going all-in on Kyiv in a real world attempt at capture the flag.

I agree, seems like there could have been a balance of keeping public calm and mobilizations at the same time.

Don't know if this has been mentioned but I just saw on NBC News and heard on Fox that Russian troops are trying to take over Chernobyl.
Lots of reports of this now and it's just 60 miles north of Kyiv. Still masses trying to flee Kyiv, man I hope this doesn't get as disastrous for those folks as it can. Pray

Obviously the contamination issues from any fighting in that region is a major concern as well

What a mess. I pray for the Ukrainians and there safety. This was easy to see though especially with the large scale build up of forces since the holidays. Question is now where does Putin stop?

Just Information ....
