Misc Pro Wrestling

Looks like the AEW PPV last night was pretty good. Haven't watched it yet, but read about it. Osprey and Danielson looked like they put on a great match. The EVPs (Young Bucks) beat FTR in the ladder match for the tag titles after Jack Perry returned. It'll be interesting to see if he says anything about Punk. Swerve beats Samoa Joe for the world title.

And another QR code on Smackdown last week. More weird stuff.

  • scan QR code, which takes you to wwe.com/ysnsy51s
  • click the link near the top of the head (it says "I'm nobody") and is gray/hard to see. photo file name is called "strabizo", which is Latin for "squint" (which you have to do to see that link some time)
  • that link takes you to wwe.com/sol_rutilo ( Sol Rutilo is Latin for "bask in the sun" )
  • That photo showing Allegory of the Cave is named "liberandum.jpg", which is Latin for "rescue"
  • video at the bottom has coordinates to a cave called Cross Cave in Slovenia.

Best entrance songs:

3. Stone Cold Steve Austin
4. Bullet Bob Armstrong
5. Goldberg

I like Rhea Ripleys song, but I was a Motionless In White fan well before she was on Raw.

For me nothing beats The Fabulous Freebirds’ use of “Freebird”. Theirs wasn’t the first use of entrance music, but at the time hardly any and maybe even no (per my memory) popular wrestlers were using entrance music. They used to just come out to the announcer and nothing else.

The Fabulous Freebirds used it to perfection and thus helped make entrance songs much more commonplace soon after (early 1980s):

“Entrance music exploded in popularity in the U.S. when The Fabulous Freebirds came onto the scene in 1979. The Fabulous Freebirds’ original theme song was the conveniently-titled ‘Freebird’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd.”

I thought HH’s “Real American” was perfect for him.

Two of my personal favorites from the 1980's were the entrance music for the Road Warriors "Ironman" by Black Sabbath and the Midnight Express "Theme from Midnight Express" by Giorgio Moroder.

I loved Midnight Express’ music. I had already liked that song before they started using it.

I thought Backlash was okay, nothing spectacular overall.

Lots of botches in the women's tag title match. New champs with Bianca and Jade.

I thought the cody and AJ match was good, and so was the KO and Orton vs Solo and Tonga match. And the new Bloodline got a new member with Tonga's brother joining. Still waiting on Fatu to come.

The segment on AEW the other night with Omega and the Elite was pretty good. Really the only interesting thing they have going now outside the good matches.

If he doesn't show and show big, if it's more hints tonight the IWC is gonna grow more restless and less receptive. Some are already complaining about the gimmick saying he should just be Bo lol

That was something. Looking forward to seeing what they do with this faction. I hope it doesn't go the way of Retribution where they lose to everyone

I thought the debut of the Wyatt 6 was awesome. Great production value. So much going on with WWE now. You have this debut, Rollins coming back to face Priest for the world title, Drew quitting and his feud with Punk, Cody taking on the Bloodline and still waiting for Roman to return, the whole Dom and Liv story while waiting for Rhea to return, and the Money in the Bank match coming up. Glad MJF has returned to AEW, but I think WWE is blowing them away now with their storylines.

I feel more sports entertained by WWE by a country mile, compared to "The Learning Tree" for example. I realize AEW skews more towards the sports/wrestling side, but they leave little else to keep people coming back

AEW has fallen off the cliff since MJF left although I like the idea of putting the title belt on Swerve Strickland. I think they could use a revamp of their creative department. I've just about stopped watching wrestling in general. Maybe MJF can make things interesting again with his return and what should be a hot feud with Adam Cole. I do not watch WWE, I still have a hangover from the Vince McMahon days and what he did to wrestling in the eighties and nineties blowing up the territory system and replacing it with a lot of the silly storylines and antics we see these days.

Territories are never coming back tho, that genie is not going back into the bottle. What we do have tho are shared interests from major promotions like we're seeing with AEW/NJPW, and WWE/TNA of late.

What I miss most about territories is we'd see wrestlers travel into different areas, so you wouldn't constantly see them on the same show for 10 years straight.

WWE under HHH is a much improved product than we saw under Vince. I stopped watching WWE because of how incredibly lame it got. Pulled back in midway in the Bloodline saga 2-3 years ago. Howdy is even more of a reason to look forward to their shows now.

Drew attacking Punk and Jakob Fatu debuting on Smackdown last Friday was great. Wonder if the Wyatt Sicks will be on Raw tonight.
