Presidential Election 2024

Empirical evidence from January 2017 through February 2020 doesn't support your assertion...
If you decide to apply tariffs to EVERYTHING coming out of China you are going to see remarkable inflation. Just look it up don’t trust my words. Tariffs make sense in a lot of ways. But not as a source of revenue and not on things that we do not have the infrastructure in place to already sell and make home grown.

I will eat my pants and delete my account if Trump wins. Kamala is likely to take GA, NC, MI and WI. 90% she wins. 10% it’s a blowout win with unexpected wins in states we are not discussing. I will be having a bojangles watch party with celebrations invited to a select few on here bear with me.
100% agree. He has done nothing to gain support since 2020. There was the whole Jan. 6th thing though that is sure some non-republicans were inspired to vote for him by though 🙄

Show me? You have statistics? Because I do.

“Before accounting for behavioral effects, the $79 billion in higher tariffs amounts to an average annual tax increase on US households of $625. Based on actual revenue collections data, trade war tariffs have directly increased tax collections by $200 to $300 annually per US household, on average. Both estimates understate the cost to US households because they do not factor in the lost output, lower incomes, and loss in consumer choice the tariffs have caused” https://taxfoundation.org/research/all/federal/trump-tariffs-biden-tariffs/

thinks it’s important to also state that I am not apposed to tariffs over-all. Infact these tariffs were kept in place and sometimes expanded under Biden. They were necessary in a lot of ways and the tax burden was out weighed in my opinion by the benefit of putting steel, electronics such as semiconductors, and washing machines made in the USA the option that was often more affordable because tariffs made these things more expensive to import. What Trump is proposing here is an absolutely moronic idea. It would place tariffs on things we have no other option to purchase, driving up the cost on those things for US substantially. There’s no way around it

Now compare those numbers to real wage increases during the same period.

Elon Musk himself said Trumps tariff proposal would bring hardship to Americans and cause a downturn in the economy as he proposes it. LOOK IT UP. HIS OWN WORDS. he said long term it would be beneficially as it promotes “make it in America”. But to just do it like this, all at once, could be devastating to the economy.
It reminds me of republicans screaming that democrats pushing EV’s and mandates, tax credits would destroy the auto industry. Yeah it would if you did all that without easing into it with infratructure in place to expand it properly.

Are you saying wages increased because of the tariffs? Somehow I doubt they are correlated
My point is those numbers are insignificant when real wages are increasing for average Americans. Free foreign trade benefits shareholders and corporate interests only. We have to take the hit to get back on track, and $625 is an insignificant hit.

Boy you guys are sure hung up on tariffs. Tariffs tariffs tariffs tariffs tariffs tariffs. They didn't destroy the economy last time and they won't this time.

Shaggy became invisible when pressed, but maybe you can help out here: Why is it good to support Harris' tax on unrealized gains plan? Tell me how that will benefit all of us and not lead to an unprecedented economic disaster?

You may not have seen my follow up message because I actually 100% agree with this. My point is that the tariff proposal he has now would be WAY over the top. The hardship on Americans would be exponentially worse under his current proposal. Those statistics show that tariffs are a burden to tax payers and most Americans. They would be MUCH WORSE under his plan going forward

Honestly it’s the only policy I’ve ever heard from him so I don’t even know what else to talk about because everything else is stupidity trans crap. Arnold Palmer’s junk, Biden being tired, kids getting sex changes at school, or how big his rallies are.

Anyone in here make 100 million a year? If so then I am sure they will be fine if they have to pay a little more in taxes....this is something that will literally effect like one half of one half of one half of a percent of Americans...and it will never be implemented as is anyways.

Do you have a net wealth of over 100 million dollars? Because that’s who it applies to. done. Now you’re up

I mean those taxes would go to things taxes go to. I don’t foresee that really harming multimillionaires a whole lot. I see it benefitting us. Unrealized gains for them are on stocks, ect. That almost never sold and just inherited by whatever firm they own or past on to some other holding company. They make money from dividends and selling and diversifying and reallocated funds based on market patterns and what-not.

Not only that, once you sell the asset, you get credited whatever you already paid from the unrealized gains of that asset. You would not be taxed again because you sold, unless of course the asset increased in value, but you would be credited the tax you have paid. It’s a way to keep the mega rich from pushing back paying, and/or using loop holes and fudge their books and avoid taxes at all. There is no way around this tax proposal and it’s actually very clever. The goverment gets those taxes NOW, and reliably to use towards goverment spending

This post and the one from Downeast proves a lack of understanding of basic economics, and greatly reduced your credibility on this issue.

Do you think people with over $100 mm have it all under their mattresses? What do you think will happen when Uber wealthy people, institutions, financial entities, etc. have to start paying taxes on all of their unrealized g/l? Lol you've got to be kidding me

I mean when you dig down

I think they will FINALLY be paying taxes at a percentage that reflects what you and I actually pay. That’s what I think
