banning choke holds, more training for officers, less use of deadly force.

If you are dealing with people trying to fight or harm you, you have to take extremes. What bothers me is seeing law enforcement doing crap to people who are handcuffed and are obviously no threat. Hope anyone who does that (law enforcer or civilian) are punished to the max.

I do fail to see how the destruction of commercial buildings, the fighting and killing of cops, harming innocent civilians help the cause. However, there are folks advocating for that, and some politicians who simply stand aside and make no firm stance on stopping it.

No matter the training, sensitivity classes, racial education, or oversight will prevent this from happening again. The training is needed, and should be ongoing, but as long as there are apple trees, there will be bad apples. You punish the crime, its all that can be done.

I want to get behind the movement to restrict the use of deadly force but a certain political party is pretending like it only happens to one certain ethnic group. People are feeling left out. This is where we fail to gain the numbers needed for actual change. We draw lines in the sand and put people in boxes. Which in turn causes people to choose sides on what should be a no brainer call for change. It’s ineffective and counterproductive. This is not surprising because this is how politics work. The first step is to recognize the problem. Another issue is we aren’t holding people accountable for the choices they make. That young man’s bad choice to fight the power was followed by the police officer’s bad choice to shoot to kill. What can we control? Our own actions.

good, all of the cops who think they can do what they want can leave. Bye Felicia.

You're right, and they have, along with other ones who don't want to be dumped on by leftist and the media. Those will be missed, unlike the unlawful ones. Too easy to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

There are times, more than I like, that I have been pulled over, searched, and invoked by law enforcers. I simply say, thank you, have a nice day officer, or any kind word I can. They have weapons, I don't. I don't allow an argument or confrontation to begin. Im short, articulate, and quick. No time for escalation. Get out alive and live. I don't understand why some fringe civilians feel the need to wage war with them. I make sure my own actions don't get myself in further trouble. Some people will compound their own bad actions and create something worse that never had to take place. Some are civilians, some are law enforcement. Nature of the beast.

I have a friend whose wife gets stopped every time she goes into a small town not too far from where you are. Different cops. I know this family well.No probable cause. It's real. It is one sided and it is time for it to stop. So far the not resisting thing has not worked. Now they are doing something different. Stay tuned it's going to get worse.

Gorsuch and Roberts got it right today.....

i was just about to mention this. Pretty silent in here about that. I’m sure Trump will be sounding off about that in the coming weeks. The big bad right leaning Supreme Court looks pretty humane here.

I think if there is one evangelical issue Trump DNGAF about its gay rights....about today's outcome on this he basically said meh they decided we live and move on.....

Roberts going this way on this case doesn’t at all surprise me. He’s moderate overall on social issues based on his past decisions.

Yeah, I don’t think Trump is anti-gay at all. Now trans may be a different story.

It always amazes me how Dylan Roof and other white mass murderers are arrested peacefully and alive but these black guys resisting arrest have to be killed. If you think racism isn't systemic, why do black men serve more time for the same crime? Why are black men sentenced to death at a much higher rate? When was the last time you heard of a white kid getting arrested for Jay walking?

You can’t just look at the same crime statistics without putting it in context of previous convictions.

You can't just write off those numbers that easy.

Here is some data....supporting your previous post...

Black male offenders continued to receive longer sentences than similarly situated White male offenders. Black male offenders received sentences on average 19.1 percent longer than similarly situated White male offenders during the Post-Report period (fiscal years 2012-2016), as they had for the prior four periods studied. The differences in sentence length remained relatively unchanged compared to the Post-Gall period.

Biased use of discretion: Prosecutors are more likely to charge people of color with crimes that carry heavier sentences than whites. Federal prosecutors, for example, are twice as likely to charge African Americans with offenses that carry a mandatory minimum sentence than similarly situated whites.38) State prosecutors are also more likely to charge black rather than similar white defendants under habitual offender laws.39)

If you combine this with the fact that black men are more likely to be stopped by police you can see the problem. Brock Turner got six months for rape, show me any black guy with a similar sentence

I have a friend who went to prison for 7 years for sexual assualt. He was black and she was drunk and white and embarrassed the next morning. They didn't even have sex and he had no record but because she was white and drunk it was all his fault. Now he is a sex offender and she is a lawyer

This happened here in my hometown last year. Cop pulled the kid over for stolen plates. They struggled outside of the car when the cop tried to arrest him. The young man got back into his car the cop shot and killed him as he was driving away. No national media attention. No protests. No riots. No civil right activists involved. This was one of my younger brother’s high school friends. They played baseball together all through middle and high school.

He was white.

You’re not going to convince me that cops like to shoot black people just because they’re black. It’s not true.

It just doesn’t fit the narrative. Neither does the black on black shootings that cripple Chicago every weekend, black lives don’t matter there it doesn’t appear.

There is difference between a poor community tearing itself apart fighting for scraps and a system rigged against a class of people. Both are wrong one is easier to fix

And I that goes without saying, I feel for people of color. The history in America is not a good one. I know the wounds are deep. It has to be tough living in a world where the television set is telling them it’s 1860 and that all white people are racist and want to put them back in shackles. It’s insanity. Pathetic. Shameful

Me too movement gone too far here? Discrimination against a male, regardless of color in this case? Did you think about that possibility?
