Political Thread

I did not vote for Trump nor Hillary in 2016 and can not in good conscience vote for any Democrat currently on the stage eligible to be the nominee. The political correctness of this country has become a cancer that immediately threatens the most important amendment to our constitution, the right to free speech (much like in the book 1984 where the government and, yes government controlled media, determines what the "truth" is). People today who do not adhere to liberal ideology are not even allowed to speak on college campuses in a lot of cases or are ridiculed as being rednecks, stupid, uneducated, evil or just fascists in most cases. ( and mea culpa here, I am basically a Conservative)

Also, Hitler is being inaccurately portrayed in this thread by some and does not represent the actual "truth"of history. He came to power because of a hated treaty, ethnic hatred, and the promise to represent the workers by putting them back to work after a hyper inflationary period caused by the Great Depression and by government ownership of industry (hence the socialism part of the Nazi party). He was nothing more than a dictator/fascist who coalesced truly desperate people by uniting them in common hatreds of the Jews, the Versailles treaty, Democracy, or the rich "barons" and not just by having control of the "good press". BTW, first 2 things he did was to start burning Bibles and a lot of great literary tomes (and substitute Mein Kampf for them) and confiscate guns. Yes he also poured money into the Nazi friendly or wholly owned newspapers of the time who most all towed the party line.

Trump is divisive no doubt, but no more than Obama was, it is just people will not admit it from either one. To those who say Trump supporters would eat dog crap if he told them to, some would, but some others here would not acknowledge/credit him if he cured heart disease. Believe it or not, there is a middle ground here (and in this country) of people who will likely vote for Trump but realize he is far from perfect and makes many mistakes that make them cringe at times. Regardless of who is elected President this year, it is going to be of a very divided country with major economic issues to face in the coming years. If we don't face and try to fix them now, then another dictator like Hitler or Stalin could well come to power here in the next 20 or so years. As so often enumerated on this thread, neither the Trump haters nor the Trump lovers will change the others minds.

I’m not sure if you’re talking about me, but Hitler was a nationalist who tapped into many of things you stated and used all of them to rally the people under the banner of making Germany great again.

Cuomo would be a Dem I would consider voting for, a lot would depend on what programs he would advocate and how far "left" towards Bernie he would go.

I know you mentioned earlier that you are basically a conservative. What about Cumo matches up with anything conservative? I don't see anything in him remotely close to a conservative, fiscally or socially.

I think he is a pragmatist and, while more to the left than I would prefer, he has some good leadership qualities as he has displayed during this crisis.

He put into law the most pro abortion law in the country last year.

I have a question. I want to ask my own pastor but am curious to your answer. We are raised to believe in Jesus. Other countries are raised with their beliefs. We as Christians are told to go to other countries to preach the gospel. The Bible tells most Americans it’s the truth. The Koran tells Muslims their truth. What makes the Bible truth over the Koran? In other words were telling them you were taught false information. You are wrong we are right. No wonder other countries hate America. We push our beliefs and ways on them. If we were raised in a Muslim country don’t you think we would think the Koran is right and the Bible is wrong. We believe the Bible is truth just like they believe the Koran is truth. Same with what media and govt tells us. Truth can be manipulated.

I have liked very few of your posts in recent weeks (so many gloom and doom). Then all of the sudden comes one of the best posts I've seen in any thread from anyone! Where did this come from? Kudos, sir!

To take this a step further, you could even apply this to any religion or non-religion belief system, including atheism if you want to be totally fair about it. It is vital for world peace to tolerate different folks with different religions and even those who don't believe in any religion. Yet, it is human nature to assume the religion one was brought up with is THE only "correct" one at least for themselves. But as someone matures, it is important to gain the empathetic view that folks who were brought up with a different religion (or even non-religion) will have similar feelings even while that someone maintains the view that one's own religion is still the "correct" one for themselves. So, it is best to respect folks with different religions even if you think their belief is not the "right" one. I have no doubt that most of us would have believed in that other religion had we been brought up that way and thought only that one would have been considered the "right" one.

Thank you sir. I do apologize if my posts come across as doom and gloom. I feel the same about all the posts about cases and deaths over and over. I just am trying to show that if scale tips one way towards many deaths eventually the scale will tip other way of a depression that I want no one to see or go thru. When I said 3rd world country we would become. I meant we would feel like it’s a 3rd world with as good as most Americans have lived in the past many years. Bottom line is we all want to get past this virus and start watching sports and having fun again with family and friends. Hopefully this virus is doing a disappearing act for us all.
As for religion I will not say much in this thread about it. I totally agree with you. I was raised a Christian but that’s just it. If I was raised a Muslim I’d believe in their religion. I believe in Christ but have many questions that make me wonder if Christianity is the only way. Such as a loving God would send someone to hell when they never were raised as Christian? That does not sound like a loving God. Sounds more like a God demanding or else. As parents do we condemn our own children to life in punishment for disobedience. We as Americans should be tolerant of all beliefs and ways. I see so many Christians get upset at Muslims spreading their religion and they wonder why they get mad at us for spreading Christianity. We as Christians and I’m guilty of it in past force others to believe this is the truth and they are wrong. That their beliefs are false. That is why it was hurtful for someone to say I’m mentally insane. It’s the same principle as beliefs and ways. I was only trying to show the other side of what can happen. I look and listen to everyone’s opinions on here. I don’t agree on all of them but respect those opinions. I listen and observe and learn. There is no wrong or right in this virus mess. If we open up to fast then suffering will be in deaths and sickness. If we stay locked down then suffering will be in poverty, homelessness and hunger. Both suck either way. I feel for all the leaders. They are darn if they do. Darn if they don’t.

I actually like this. Well thought out and accurate. I’m a Catholic and I have issues too.

Lol love your neighbor but risk the cops lives for this. This governor is lacking brains. If those individuals choose to go to church then that’s their right. They can make their own choices. They are hurting no one. So risk police lives to track people down. So what put them in jail to risk others. The governor needs to understand in a couple more weeks things are going to open up. Most in his state are not listening to him anyway. I’d bet chances are he does not get another term when his time is up. Another politician that does not understand the constitution.

This is total BS! These leaders are making laws at Will now. The police should tell their mayor and governor go arrest them yourself. Cowards to send police officers after someone not wearing a mask. Next they will make it a national law. If these corrupt politicians keep arresting and making stupid laws. It’s not going to end well. Eventually the people will rise up and fight back.
