October Odyssey

Sleet accumulations are probably around an inch to and inch and a half right now with more moderate to heavy sleet currently. This band hitting us keeps reforming in the back end. Starting to also see ice forming on trees and plants as well.

Edit: thundersleet now... unreal

Brent, another two months you probably be in the midst of a big ice storm while all of us wondering where is winter☹?

Hopefully I mean it is October but this storm is just reminding me of how its always been for several years now so close and yet nothing happens here lol

Gonna be interesting to see how tomorrow morning plays out around here. Models fairly consistent in showing very heavy precipitation moving in with temperatures in the upper 20s before daybreak. Probably gonna have more thunderstorms as well. The good news is by late morning they have the freezing line surging northward thanks to the stout north wind. Still with that heavy precipitation and hard freeze the ice may start racking up in spots. Already had issues throughout today’s wave.

Hey Buford. I haven't seen many temps rise dramatically from a stiff north wind. Did you mean south wind??

I'm definitely not a wxman, but I would rather have heavy freezing rain than light because light can accrete better on trees and power lines than heavy stuff. Heavy can just run right off normally.

When the heavy precipitation arrives I have my doubts it will be just freezing rain. I suspect it will be similar to today with a bunch of sleet mixed in as well which given the temperatures by morning could be problematic in other areas. Already seeing more lighter freezing rain as well so ice accumulation will only increase tonight. Hoping the freezing line can push out of here quickly tomorrow.

By the way before I meant that the wind would be moving northward from the south, thus hopefully driving in slightly warmer temperatures.

Is it just me or is this second front early next week trending stronger? Still think first official freeze won't come until mid Nov: 1603774275619.png

As soon as you got the chance, keep pics and obs coming
Might be running out of time soon. The temperature is already starting to warm some. Went from 29 to 31 in the past half hour. Will get more picture as soon as it lights up a bit more outside.

edit: As soon as I say that the temperature dropped down to 30 again. Lol

That sleet/zr combo is always pretty crazy. Sets up like concrete especially after a hard freeze the night after.

how much accumulation do you think on trees?
Probably around a half inch at this point. It’s taking a big toll on them. Really sagging and stooping over. The leaves aren’t helping either.
