I just feel like every October/November, we get the perfect winter pattern, then we just don't get it in winter.

Maybe November, but both October ‘18 and ‘19 were very warm and downright hot early in the month.

Personally I'd rather see that we can block in the high latitudes versus the last 2 years where the block was the SE ridge

your definitely right about that, last October there was blocking, but problem was is was basically a SER embedded in the block
this still reminds me blocking can go poof when winter arrives
