Around Atlanta I’m interested in what the temperatures do. Currently 42 here and dropping, but FFC is saying that the temperature should start rising slightly into the mid 40s again. Will be interesting to see if that happens.

Yes, increasing NW flow + more cold/dry air advection will continue favoring lateral expansion of this subsidence region in the lee of the apps.
I’m curious about that myself. Personally I think it will more likely level off a few hrs and then steadily drop again. We’ll see. I do if it’s reaching the ground yet, but there is rain/snow showers in far NE AL right now.

I mentioned earlier that hwy 441 from Cherokee to Gatlinburg would be winners, especially near the passes such as Newfound Gap, and sure enough they closed the road due to snow, ice, and windy. Little to no visibility.

The mountains will wring out all the moisture and the areas on the downwind side of those mountains will be dry and warm. NW winds will result in the areas lying to the east and southeast to be dry, hence why you're seeing that dry slot in the upstate currently. If you want snow in those areas, it's a bad thing.
Good for those wanting to go below freezing tonight east of the mountains. Clouds/moisture would mean warmer here. The wind will increase and temps will sharply fall after 5..then we just wait and see if any spill over occurs with the snow showers.
Um it’s always been a overnight threat for these areas in the east. It’s better to clear out and turn cold tonight to actually support flurries after midnight.
It’s also called a katabatic wind. It’s a wind that carries high-density air from a higher elevation down a slope under the force of gravity. It usually pulls all the moisture from a system and allows for clearing.

Maybe so for climo favored areas east of the Apps in NC, but specifically for his area (Upstate) lying S/SE of the escarpment, it's going to be difficult to get flurries into the French Broad River Valley let alone into Greenville-Spartanburg.
The northern mountains (Blowing Rock) will hold on to the snow showers into Wednesday...with the colder temps too. Looks to shut off 1 day sooner the further you are to Asheville maybe on Tuesday. And if you even further north of blowing rock the snow doesn’t stop till almost Thursday in West Virginia. Per latest short range models (nam).

Yep after 10am the nam warms things up too quickly imo. I would be surprised tho if the snow showers linger into early afternoon Wednesday.

CMC is likely a winter event Friday for western Carolinas...shows widespread 34 temps but given incoming snowpack I bet it’s more sleet/wintery. I doubt rain in the mtns.

NWS has already upped my snow totals. Originally were saying less than inch today, and now its 1-3 today and 1-3 tonight. Could get crazy up here!
