Wintry More SE Snow ? (1/16-1/18)

Can someone explain to me the lack of snow accumulation in Chattanooga but jumps to 2-3" in the north central valley

Here is what CAE spoke of on their latest update:

There are several factors related to this system that are not
ideal for resulting in accumulating snow in our area leading to
relatively high confidence this will be a minimal impact event.
First, there is not going to be a period of cold air in place
associated with a strong damming high. Second, any sign of
coastal low development is well too far east and after the
moisture has moved out of the area. Third, thermal profiles
generally show little moisture available in the favored snow
growth region. Moisture is a bit better across the northern
Midlands but still not great there either, it is more into NC
before you reach the deeper moisture in the snow growth region.

Per models' timing assuming that isn't too slow: starts tomorrow evening and ends late night.

Tomorrow late afternoon- early evening if it happens at all.
Don’t expect more than an inch...but, what does fall has the potential to flash freeze with temps in the 20s falling into the teens.

Not sure about timing but with the cold temps, any snow that sticks will stick to everything, grass, elevated surfaces, and roads. Even a dusting will cause issues.

Welcome to the southerwx family! There have been numerous maps posted showing model output snowfall maps over the last several pages.... seriously no disrespect intended but if you will scroll through these pages you will see the various model output for NE Bama. 1-2" looks possible but that's just an estimate based on the different and changing model runs... Again welcome!

I felt the same way when NC dominated other boards. I like it that MS, TX, and AL folks get mentioned here. It looks good out there, and that's probably why there hasn't been much focus. The much more challenging areas have been over this way I feel. However, this could be a board wide except a few event.

.84" in Bham.. Between 1-2" for North Alabama in places.

While Flo is way too negative and doesn't add much; his pessimism is warranted here because I feel the same for our chances at this point. A dusting, may even be out of the question for his area. Allan Huffman's map alludes to it, and I can't say the map looks too bad around South Carolina.

I'm probably seen as a debbie downer right now, because I just can't get behind this event until something, major, changes my thinking. Columbia, SC are chasing a flurry at this point.

Pessimism/debbie downerism it isn't when reality states it. I completely understand your point and don't view it as pessimistic by any means.

While maps get posted that show the entire SE it's nice when Bama folks comment specifically for that area, (xtreme, arcc, storm, just to name a few), everybody knows their specific local micro climates better.... it's certainly not intentional that areas sometimes feel "left out". Also we all are guilty of focusing on our own area more than others...it's perfectly normal I think and again not intended to be disrespectful.
