Be glad it's quick hitting. During Irene in 2011 we recorded our first 70mph hour gust at 7:30am and our last at around 6 pm That was a long day.70mph gust at Anderson..at 654am
I’m in SW Charlotte and amazed my power is still on. It did blink once but so far so good. Wind has had me up since around 5 am. It seems to come in waves and when it does I hear several limbs hitting my roof from the huge red oak in my front yard (not a pleasant feeling).South clt update. Multiple trees down in my neighborhood across roads. No power. Just had a wind gust on weather station of 53mph.

Trying to wrap up here wind wise but you still get these random straightline gusts that want to rip the shingles off your house
Take this band seriously. Woke me straight up around 530am. One of those cells produced a mesovortex spin in which the winds were easily gusting to hurricane force. Extremely wild watching the intense blinding rain spin around in front of the large parking lights. Hadn't been that nervous since DorianFor those in eastern SC, central NC and eastern NC this will be our story in this. Thisis the band that brings us our tornado threat View attachment 152151
I mean... it's basic common senseWRAL in house model showing 40-50 mph gust across central NC, mostly with that squall line later but they stated this is due to center being further east than anticipated. Are we the only one's that looked at the globals and saw this coming? Lol
So I guess this is literally the calm before the storm here.Take this band seriously. Woke me straight up around 530am.
