So why did we see so much rain in the days leading up to Helene? We experienced what meteorologists commonly refer to as a Predecessor Rainfall Event - or PRE. A cold front stalled to the west of the...www.facebook.com
I don't have velocity numbers but I know the discharge on rivers across the regions were incredible. For example the South Toe's discharge hit 18,400 cubic ft/sec before the sensor went down. It could have easily peaked in the 20-30k range. For those who aren't familiar with discharge, it's the volume of water flowing through a river at a given time. To put this in perspective, the Potomac at DC averages ~11,000 cfs, and the Hudson at NYC is ~20,000 cfs. I can't find any sensors near Chimney Rock but at a glance the South Toe and Broad look similar in size. You basically had the equivalent of the Hudson River flowing through that tight valley which is mind-boggling.

Heard this reported on WWNCI read that FEMA disaster assistance was paying out to those with food spoilage losses due to very long power outages. This has nothing to do with the NFIP. This doesn’t sound right but I was asked to find out. Does anyone know?
They also posted a great video today on FB of them riding around assessing damage and the determining factors for when school goes back . Greenville County Schools on FBGreenville County Schools closed Monday

FEMA assistance available if you threw out spoiled food from Helene | 98.7 The River | Mark Robertson
If a power failure led to your leaving food in your refrigerator longer than 4 hours, you may need to throw it away. But you can get money to reimburse you for that loss. Here is what you need to know.987theriver.iheart.com
-Fulton/Dekalb not on list (at least yet), but Richmond is ( @GeorgiaGirl ) as well as many others. You can still apply before your county is on list just in case it gets added later.
I think it proves that we know nothing. They are countering the counter information with more counter information. It’s an endless loop. With these disasters, history tends to repeat itself. You can rest assured that government funded agencies willWhat does this tweet/video prove?
I have dealt with FEMA first hand and they are certainly not the shining knight in armor.
Thanks for this info. I still don’t have power. I also heard today they will reimburse for a generator if it is medically necessary so I should qualify for that because of my son. I had one from the ice storm but it was not stored properly, carburetor got clogged and my nephew tried to clean it but broke a part. I had to buy a new one. I’m going to get a Generac and thought I had time before winter. Never thought we would get a hurricane. I’ve been here 54 years. I saw NWS confirmed 100mph winds here. So many trees down and lives lost.Thank you! I called FEMA.
-Since March, FEMA has been paying $750 for food losses from storms. Must be done within 30 days of storm. Has nothing to do with whether you have NFIP.
-For those in GA who are wondering, FEMA confirmed residents in certain counties in GA (including mine) can apply.
-Fulton/Dekalb not on list (at least yet), but Richmond is ( @GeorgiaGirl ) as well as many others. You can still apply before your county is on list just in case it gets added later.
-For all states call 800-621-3362 or apply online at http://disasterassistance.gov/ and click on the red. On phone they’ll tell you if your county is on list.
- I think power had to be out 3 days but don’t hold me to that
-Supposedly most get the $750 if power was out long enough. It is all or nothing.
-If denied, can appeal
Same. Duke told me today but so many in Asheville is without power. After they restore a power line another issue appears. Duke really dropped the ball on this one.Won't be getting power till possibly Sunday.
Don't mean to be harsh but what more can Duke do? We have power companies from all over. Parts of Buncombe county are completely gone. Just heard of more deaths yesterday from the flooding. Have you seen the destruction in person? This disaster is unprecedented for our area. I'm right there with you. No power since last Friday at 6 am on the dot. We just have to adapt and survive bro.Same. Duke told me today but so many in Asheville is without power. After they restore a power line another issue appears. What are y'all doing about water?Same. Duke told me today but so many in Asheville is without power. After they restore a power line another issue appears. Duke really dropped the ball on this one.
I applied it was easy. Have a hole in my roof from the wind.FEMA assistance…. Disasterassistance.gov
Please apply through the website. There’s no food spoilage requirement. If you’re in a declared county the process is pretty automatic. On the site they’ll list a center for your area. Once things are calmed down go there and ask about additional assistance or a generator. FEMA exists in part to hand out this money to people. These negative stories out there discourage people. It’s 100% that You ain’t getting nothing if you don’t apply.

Welcome to the club. These things look good on the surface but they really aren’t for usWell I got auto rejected because I have insurance with a sky high hurricane deductible. Any ideas?
Whos it for if it’s not for the disaster relief?Welcome to the club. These things look good on the surface but they really aren’t for us
I take it anyone who has insurance is just out of luck with FEMA?Whos it for if it’s not for the disaster relief?
I know this is a risky post, so folks please don’t go political, but I can’t help but ask.
Sort of a redundant question I know
I mean they do have an appeal process basically saying show us what the insurance won’t cover and we will consider it, but we will seeI take it anyone who has insurance is just out of luck with FEMA?
Yeah I won’t comment on that bc the thread will get locked. When my insurance agent gets back from Disney world (Whos it for if it’s not for the disaster relief?

Probably won't get anything from your insurance either. Because the damage to your roof does not exceed the deductable. Now I had to file a claim on probably $2,000 worth of damage against a $6,000 deductible just so my home insurance can double next year
I know. But hoping I can prove to fema that the insurance didn’t cover the roof, but if not whatever.Probably won't get anything from your insurance either. Because the damage to your roof does not exceed the deductable.
Congrats! My wife and I just returned from Greensboro. Still no power, and don't expect water anytime soon. Nice traffic jam on I-40 East in the Old Fort area where it goes to one lane, people ready for a shower.Just got word my power and well water is back on! I'm so relieved.
