For coverage it might be. Intensity and totals, nah.Gentlemen I’m gonna go ahead and say it
You could live 10 lifetimes and you might not see another one play out that way around here
An old fashioned Carolina snowstorm

One of the hardest measurements I’ve ever done. It’s drifting everywhere.Quickly approaching 2 inches with the death band.View attachment 192995
Get it! Dry slot is for the birds!Coming down good here. Not really big flakes but it is coming down fast. Greg Fishel still saying 4 inches here is possible.
At least one 2-4 inch event is pretty common where I live and love every single one of them. Sure the big dogs are fun but anytime snow is falling and covers the ground I’m glued to the window. This is the South, man; gotta dial down your expectations! 3" is a good storm around these parts! Don't get me wrong, 6" is my bar for a "serious" storm, but those are an every-few-winters kind of thing, usually.

If can get the ratios that have been showing up and throw in the QPF, we could be cooking.Just did some measurements and I think we are in the 3.5-4” range. Kind of hard to measure honestly. Thought we might’ve had more but alas. Oh well, it’s not over yet. HRRR suggests we snow for another 4-6 hours, although rates don’t seem fantastic.
Me and my son went for one about 45mins ago and I felt like I was walking around Beech Mountain. Blowing snow and single digit wind chill. Tough to get this kind of atmosphere around here. Peepaw snowstormJebwalk, may be my best ever
That's hard to believe. That would suggest like 30:1 ratios?KGSO reporting .3 liquid from the storm. Insane rates. Wonder what their official number will be.
Absolutely. Also, a 2-4" storm like this that covers the roads fully, etc. is a very different beast (in a good way) than a lot of our 2-4" slopfests that slush up the roads. At least one 2-4 inch event is pretty common where I live and love every single one of them. Sure the big dogs are fun but anytime snow is falling and covers the ground I’m glued to the window.
Still a juicy feed racing north that has to work through central and eastern NC...someone go yank that low back west a bit or at least slow it down another 6 hrs

In my opinion, the globals started doing well within two days. The Euro was the first to see the dry slot over RDU. Early on the NAM is awful so I would give it 24+ hours after a storm comes into its frame before it really gets an idea. I believe SREF did the best on mesoscale. The GFS wasn’t to far off with the euro but started moving in its direction 6-8 runs before game time. ICON and UK did the worst but I feel like it was because of the ULL transfer to the coastal low.Looking back on everything...which model(s) do you think did the best with this storm, start to finish?
Yeah, what an amazing comeback! Looked bleak 24 hours ago. I hate that Raleigh got the shaft though.
The death band from the east has reached you! It’s gloriousHard to judge versus when it was daylight earlier, but this might indeed be the heaviest snow of the storm right now.
Started at 4am and still snowing at 8:30p with a few hours to come. All while in the teens. It’s still snowing
Heavy dusting here to this point with light snow still falling and a very windy 28. It’s so cool watching it blow around in the strong winds, especially coming off the roof, because of it being fluffy. Looking at the leaves/grass, some is as deep as 1/2”. But some is closer to 1/4”. So, taking the average gives me 3/8”. So, maybe call it 0.3-0.4”. The pavement is still just wet:
The stuff of dreams!Started at 4am and still snowing at 8:30p with a few hours to come. All while in the teens.
I was feeling your pain last night. You could have either gotten 1 inch or 12 inches. And look what you didYeah, what an amazing comeback! Looked bleak 24 hours ago. I hate that Raleigh got the shaft though.
