their workstations have 4-6 monitors and their software (awips) is more attuned to serious forecasting. otherwise they use what we use

I think they’re in on the same theory Fishel
Was/is due to familiarity with climo since this is their home court. That being that the low hugs coast more due to Gulf Stream and the NW precip shield heavily enhances. Historically, that’s often the case although every scenario is unique.

If the HRRR somehow happens, going to be a lot of egg on the face of basically every other model as well as outright anger from John Q Public in the Triangle.

Luckily it's the long range HRRR, but still
 
I generally stand by the opinion that the long range HRRR sucks, although that was ugly to see. Figure that is highly unlikely to happen (as in it completely blanks RDU), but something more moderate could certainly happen where they only get a couple inches.
