Wintry January 8-9 Wintery Weather Potential!

Wow, drove 5 minutes down to downtown Apex and it’s ripping there with dusting on cars and elevated surfaces. Rain back at home.

Took a late night walk. Wasn’t expecting any more snow it’s not showing up on radar. But it’s like a snow globe in Maggie Valley it’s already dying down now though but it dusted my car NW flow stuff

Well.. ended up with 2.5” up here just a 4KFT elevation in cashiers, NC.. definitely much lower than I was initially expecting... it was evident when the NAM followed the idea of HRRR with the idea of essentially skipping Extreme SW NC mountains due to the ULL tracking unfavorably right over the area.. instead of just to the south which ended up being the case more so for the most eastern NC mountains/foothills and Piedmont resulting in higher snowfall totals.. thankfully so, my location had enough elevation to compensate for the lack of lift for the reason mentioned above.. things would of been much different here if the ULL tracked ~50 miles further south than it did... & of course if it was a little slower it would of helped to with more daytime heating
 
Arguably a perfect executed chase today literally could not have gone any better if I tried, made all the right moves/decisions and got the mesoscale luck to go our way every single time. Can’t be happier. Ended up driving for 20 hours in total but it was worth every minute. Definitely became an expert at driving in the snow with significant road accumulations and in the mountains to boot

20 hours!? You could have made it to buffalo for some lake effect for close to that price ?
