A 1043 arctic high dropping south with two shortwaves close to phasing together....that is definitely the look of a big storm somewhere in the South modernweenie.

Euro ends trying to build an East based NAO but the cold air is on the other side of the world. It's insistent on no west coast ridging. It's ensembles haven't been agreeing with it very much late in the going.

The potential is there, and the storm signal is strong and getting stronger. I remember when a winter storm in Texas meant one in NC 99% of the time, but it's been ages since it's been like that. But things have surely been more and more positive the last 24 hours. We are going in the right direction as of now.

06 GFS is frigid, except the two days we need it to be that run. Hopefully the pattern is right, we know its 800 mile waffles on storm track are common.

Lots of cold around and 3 storms from the 21st to the 29th. That may have been the most legendary snowdome run ever though. It literally snows almost everywhere it can snow in the entire lower 48 except a small area of NE Texas and across the Southeast.

One thing is looking likely, cold air is coming. Models have trended colder with that. Spring days in Winter are numbered.

These 06 model runs are very painful to look at. Literally 14 out of 15 days of dry and cold with one warm day and rain!

It’s getting suppressed. We’ve seen that on several runs. It’s not an uncommon scenario in the southeast.

That run is the perfect example of why it is so hard to snow on the southeast. Not saying it is right, but shows how timing of cold air masses and precipitation is so difficult to achieve.

I really doubt that 1050 high will verify, but it still will likely be too strong for a storm to be able to amplify. We need that axis further west and/or for the trough to not dive so deep into the gulf to have a chance

Had a good storm roll through around 3 am. Lots of thunder. Hope that old wives' tale is onto something.
