January has definitely been a winner here so far. 72.0/57.4 average here through Jan 12th. No rain as well. Dry, sunny, and extremely comfortable. A+ month!
There areas around Atlanta and Birmingham really benefitted from changing over at the correct time to take advantage of heavy precipitation bands. That’s why you saw heavy snow in those areas that really piled up quickly.
Moisture took awhile to get areas further north and in some areas they didn’t get much moderate/heavy snow before switching over to sleet/ZR

Nice score on that surface map for a good part of both Alabama and Georgia. Don't see that too often

Days are lengthening by well over a minute each day and solar noon angle going up by .2 each day, half of the south will have an angle above 40 by end of the month , with the rest only a few days behind

Absolutely incredible that I’ve had a trace of snow or sleet for 5 out of the last seven days on the ground.

Yeah I still have ice in the driveway. Going to stop on the way home and buy some rock salt to break it up.

Out in fantasy land but even this isn't a warm pattern for us...cold still dumping into heart of conus with the big poleward pacific block. We lose the -NAO so that's a problem but still would give us chances.
End of EPS is setting up as the first week of Feb 2014 did...and we know how that turned out. I just remember SuperJames living in GSO getting event after event in Feb 2014 into early March.
Yeah was about to say, the EPS is pressing the 2014 button going poleward with the pac ridge

The ground is so dang cold that the shaded areas just aren’t melting. It’s gonna be here til Friday at this point. Incredible.
I said screw it and just left the snow board out to wait on next week haha. I have solid sheet of ice on part of my driveway that stays shaded
Probably going to need to pull Saturday Sunday out on their own soon

So I haven't really been looking at models too closely, is the GFS only thing showing something Sunday night? I see Rah NWS mentioned rain could change over but wasn't too impressed with "wrap around" snow chances.
Just noticed I have a 1" mean on the 18z GEFS for Sunday night

Same in Huntsville. It was 4.5" of snow that was then drizzled on for about 8 hours and there still some in shady spots.

Euro 12z says we will continue to winter weather threats through the entire month of January.
Can’t wait to see the final temperature departure anomalies for the month when all is said and done. Potentially one of the best winter months many have seen in quite some time (if you like cold and snow opportunities)
We usually get 1 a month now we’re getting 5-6 in January alone
