Even though it is absolutey fascinating, it's scary as heck. Please don’t track it near my house. I don’t enjoy sitting in a closet praying it doesn’t head my way, but that’s just me?. I absolutely hate severe weather!

The popping was likely the sound of trees, a few might have died depending on the type. If you have any magnolias they are probably deadLow was -8.3 on one gauge and -7 on the others. It was so cold I could hear popping noise on the roof overnight. I’M assuming it was the snow making noises in the extreme cold. It’s 21 now which is the first time out the teens since Saturday afternoon.

Looks like Memphis just came out with a Winter Weather advisory.HRRR has a light glazing of ice tomorrow on top of the 6 inches of snow still on the ground
Here as well most are a solid sheet of ice nowThe roads here are still terrible! Sun helped but not as much as I would have thought.
I was so annoyed I had to blow pollen off the drivewayAlready back below freezing after 5 hours above. Daffodils and lawn mowers
Looking awfully dry in North Florida.Wave storms

As a whole outside of the most favorable high elevation yes. However, Sugar for instance, is sitting @ 30” so far with a seasonal average of 42” so they are well ahead of pace to meet climo. Niños have been tough outside ofThis has to be a record low snow total this winter coming for the mountains of NC
It's bad but I think it's on par with last year. The high country already has a bigger event this year than all of last. This has to be a record low snow total this winter coming for the mountains of NC
One thing I haven't seen mentioned is Asheville's snow drought. They have not received measurable snow since .3 in on March 12th 2022. They only received a trace last year and only a trace this year so far. That could change this weekend but they are going on about 670 days without measurable snow, so I would think that would have to be a record. The last time they received at least one inch was the Jan 2022 storm. It's not just our imaginations that it's been rough on the East side the past couple of years. This has to be a record low snow total this winter coming for the mountains of NC
Asheville season average is 12". 0" so far this year and a trace last year. The temp spike is what caused the SER to amp so much. Without the temp spike, i think the mountains would have had a decent snow storm. But this is the new reality. This has to be a record low snow total this winter coming for the mountains of NC
For anyone wondering what the official records are at the three official office of GSP.One thing I haven't seen mentioned is Asheville's snow drought. Yeah the 1993 Blizzard was definitely a bigger deal in northern Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties and points north and west… I got 6” in Concord with most of that falling between noon and 3 that afternoon. Yes the current drought we’re in to me is no we’re near as bad as the early 90s. CLT went from 12/12/89 to 1/25/91 with no measurable snow and that 12/12/89 was only .3” and the 1/25/91 system was only .4”. Then it would 3/13/93 before the 2” officially at the airport. That means that CLT went from 2/23/89 to 3/13/93, just over 4 years, with only .7” of snowfallAs someone who grew up in the Charlotte area, I can tell you from about 1988 until the blizzard of 1996, there was really nothing too notable snowstorm wise. That is eight years. The blizzard of 93 really only affected areas north and west of town before you ask. Now that I think about it, I am pretty sure Charlotte went from 1988 until 2004 without a double digit event.
We had about 4-6” in Gastonia, depending on if you were in the south part of town or north part of town. My grandfather drove for Carolina Freight and I can vividly remember his truck coming home from Cherryville covered in snow. I still haven’t seen a really good map that depicted well what happened that storm in our area.Yeah the 1993 Blizzard was definitely a bigger deal in northern Mecklenburg and Cabarrus Counties and points north and west… I got 6” in Concord with most of that falling between noon and 3 that afternoon. Probably of little consolation to most but ensembles seem to want to start breaking down the “death ridge” around the 29th time frame. Obviously what happens in reality past 240 hours is anyone’s guess.
