Florida peninsula really crushed the structure of Ian. I highly doubt we see much strengthening before any potential 2nd landfall. Enjoy the wind and rain along the east coast....may be a while before there is any more.

Pretty funny that now HHI is on the very, very southern periphery of the hurricane models.

What’s with the one member curving all the way back out into the Atlantic ?

I think that is just a side effect of the algorithm trying to find the lowest pressure. Once the storm loses its identity, it become difficult for the algorithm to track.

I was just about to mention that. It looks like the UK. That would be strange, but not unheard of. I think it was Ivan in 2004 that the remnants exited the Mid-Atlantic coast, dropped south and looped back over Florida, then reformed into a tropical storm then made another landfall on the Gulf Coast

We've seen the gulf stream do some wild things before to storms though. Hugo was a Category 2 before it passed over.

Hugo was already put together well and was completing an ERC when it took off

That's true and this thing is not going to go crazy but I think a decently strong Cat 1 is possible. The gradient from the high is going to exacerbate the situation too.

Yeah… even that is further south from its runs yesterday. With the NAM and UK coming back south and other models ticking north, I really think we’re looking at the Charleston area.
