Misc General Banter Thread

Let me channel stats class back in the day. Take the median or the mean, depending on your mood.

Or take the mode if you're trying to be cute.

Almost forgot, toss out the the high/low outliers cause they deviate too much from the mean. Too much skewwww.
You know it's getting real when we are taking the mode

We have so many damn models now, it could actually work.
I have given up trying to decide which one is right and have thrown all of their QPF numbers into a spreadsheet at various airports and that is what I am rolling with unless something is screaming at me otherwise

Funny enough I was just thinking how useful that would be, plug in a location (or airport) and get back a table of every model x every run time (most recent at the top or the left depending on which is x and which is y) and the cell would be the QPF or total snow or whatever.

I went in and got all the QPF numbers for a billion different ops and ens earlier this evening and thought man there’s probably a way to automate this

Anyone have any ideas on why Kuchera value on GFS is actually lower than the 10:1 ratio? .....at least for AGS... thought this event would have much higher than 10:1 ratios even in Augusta.

I’m interested to see how the AI models do with this storm. Being so new, and this being a rare setup for the southeast, it’ll be interesting.
Whatever knowledge they gain with this one will never be used again at this latitude. They’ll prob ctrl+alt+delete this file Monday morning to free up space

Ya know, it's almost too good to be true. NWS forecast is at least 3'' for every NC county except one in far west. Also, 2/3rds of the entire state of SC, which is better than friggin VA. By this time tomorrow, ATL might be thrown in there. This is insanely rare to see this over these areas for the same event. I hope we talk about Jan 2026 like we talk about the big ones years from now.

It feels like we are either getting less than 3" or more than 10" with nothing in between.

I hope RDU can end its two-decade-plus drought of more than 10" snowfall in a winter, a feat that happened once every three years on average prior to the 21st century.

Here are a few more. Look closely to the left in picture 1 and you can see trees all over people’s yard. 2nd picture to the right power lines still down. Electric companies are getting crap right now but they did a phenomenal job in my town with clean up and getting power back on by Wednesday night after being out since Sunday morning.

His name is Twister but he is currently frozen solid in a large glacier of ice with his golf clubs and bag in the northern upstate of SC at the moment. I don't think he will thaw out in time for this storm this weekend or next week.
Quicker thaw time if you put him in the abominable snowman for a quick thaw, but it's risky business.

It’s a pain missing out on the snow here again i really do hope we get our chance around these parts in north Alabama just have that feeling we may not see anything before winter is over
