Misc General Banter Thread

I don’t agree with the cliff diving at the moment but I get it. Our area (CLT metro and upstate SC) has been burned, blanked and rug pulled to the point of absurdity in the last few years, and in a way unlike anywhere else on this board when you take into account climo. So I get it.

This would be a heck of a weekend to be out on frying pan tower. Rain, freezing rain, sleet, snow, massive waves, gale force or higher winds.
I've always wanted to experience a beach snow. Definitely on the bucket list. Hopefully the coastal gives you guys a good thumping.

5-10” here too Snowman. Had I not seen those stupid numbers past few days id have been elated with 3-6” much less this. Perspective….

I hope we can pull out 3-6. That might be stretch if our ULL continues to fizzle. Maybe Brad P does know his stuff. He’s been firing off some warning shots that it could be lower.

Yeah I'm expecting 3-6 but it's nice to see the potential is there. Just going to depend on the meso low that forms.

What ever we get enjoy it guys. This is a nice treat regardless of the outcome. Yes a foot plus would be amazing but even if everybody just gets 3 to 6 is a win. My yard is still covered with sleet and snow my son's been out of school all week. It's definitely been a very memorable 10 days with the cold and storms. Stay safe and warm my friends. Anyone needs anything message me.

One of my favorite things is watching the clouds build in before a winter storm. Also watching the birds. The birds seem to be acting different than they usually do before winter weather though. Didn't have a one. even my everyday visitors last week until precip started falling. Then they brought everybody else in the area. All kinds. Same now. No birds yesterday. None today so far and usually they are at feeders. Strange.

edit: birds are here all of sudden and in a stir! Busy. Love it. Guess they were hiding last time and knew it was ice instead of snow. Smart birdies. Good luck to everybody. ❄️☃️❄️🌨️❄️

I like the arpge...it's been fairly weak past couple of days and latest run is perking up. Lot of good things come from France....

We get pretty regular snows down here. Granted it’s not usually back to back years with 6”+ potential but after the 90s being so bad we’ve had at least something more years than we’ve had nothing since 2000. The people that live in places like Augusta and Columbia have it rougher than we do. They’re sometimes too far inland to get the coastal storms but too far south or east for the cutters the hit Atlanta and Greenville.

If you don’t know where frying pan tower is its way out in the ocean off Cape Fear. Getting snow out there is ridiculous.

Take the lowest model and cut it in half.
Woa now hold on there Jim Bob lol Most models show 10:1 so if anything there in the ballpark. This will be a 15:1 20:1 type event very rare. One of the few times the totals might actually be close to reality. The ceiling is definitely high for this one in some areas.

We’ve had ours down to 65 since last week. Lots of windows so it’s fine during the day and we run a gas wall heater on pilot or low for radiant heat.
Yeah man I've got a kerosene heater I've been running just to give my heat pump a break. They're not designed for this type of cold.

Believe it or not just about any heat pump built in the last 30 years is perfectly fine down to 0. They’re really good at maintaining a set temperature efficiently but not the best at quickly warming a home. The supplemental (or emergency) heat strips kicking on in the air handler are really what runs the power bill up. I think our heat pump didn’t shut off for a couple of days last January other than to run a defrost cycle during the snow.

Just when I got through catching up with the positive overnight disco the dad gum Europeans cancelled the good vibes for my area. 😞
I went to bed high on life / a foot of modeled snow and opened up the thread this morning to a variety of meltdowns. 🔥

I think you'll be fine. Still going to be a good storm for most maybe not the foot plus totals but it's cold and every bit of it is going to stick and ground temps are not going to be an issue.

Much better by the NAM suite for my intents and purposes, while I didn't say so initially as I was actually busy with two things, that 6z NAM was at a level of "if this verifies, I swear I am going to become a joker" caliber bad.

Sorry NC folks. Maybe we can get an RGEM like everyone wins solution instead of it being SC and parts of Georgia or NC...

I tend to agree. 3-6” isn’t a bad call I think, but there is certainly potential for 8-12”, or more. We shall see.
