Misc General Banter Thread

For the metro its been about a decade I believe. @GaWx usually has the history stats

Indeed, for a moderate or major freezing rain, it has been since 2/2014 for airport/S and E burbs through Augusta and into SC. The N burbs including Dunwoody (where I was) got lighter ZR but heavier sleet. It was a nice sleet that I believe accumulated to near 1.5”, which was then the heaviest sleet I had experienced in ATL since way back in the great 3-4” 1/1988 sleetstorm. Interestingly, I experienced a heavier sleet than 2/2014 in of all places, here, where an amazing ~2.5” fell Jan 21-22nd, 2025, within my 2.9” total sleet and snow!

I get it... It's been a long week of stuff here that I just posted in the right thread and I'm like wow at a lot of things looking back

Hugging Get In GIF

I mean we had reliable models showing 2 feet of snow here and I'm just struggling to grasp how we're probably gonna be lucky to get 6 inches haha

I'm not complaining but it's just wow in my head to think about how the models could be that wrong and I really want to figure out why

I’m gonna be honest, I was pretty depressed over the anemic radar and later start time/drying hi-res models a couple hours ago. But wow…. We have done a complete 180 and are getting 100% nuked!

Delayed but not denied!!!
Yeah same here. We are getting hammered here and just getting started. Moisture returns are coming in heavy now and closing in on a inch of sleet here. Your right. Delayed but not denied.

TWC app has been hilariously awful for this. I know we don’t take it seriously anyways, but still.

AccuWeather was a lot better here and it never waivered even when models showed 20 inches. It was always on the low end of the predictions

It may even still be too high but it's a lot closer than TWC. I'll never forget what they predicted

Just woke up and went outside. Looks like....it sleeted a bunch? Kinda hard to tell in the dark and I don't feel like going down 2 flights of stairs this early.

It's funny that some counties in Georgia that didn't even get Ice closed schools for tomorrow. I guess their excuse will be that tomorrow is gonna be cold so they don't want kids to be out in the cold weather.

Yeah it's super bizarre. Imma be real. This ice isn't even as bad as the ice my backyard got last year during the Jan 10th snow event. I didn't really get any sleet either so that can't be an explanation here.
Be patient. The real Ice Storm starts later today in Georgia. it's just getting started.

That CBS station has always been a joke. It's been like 15 years since I lived there(or well in Alabama and got Atlanta TV) and they were back then too haha

How many name changes have they been through already. Still trash

100% the same here. Left my house so we wouldn’t lose power and they haven’t…came to my parents cause they have a generator and on the low end 10” of snow coming. We are sitting on about 2.5-3. Now due to road conditions likely stuck up here for a couple days, I love my folks but….

Well, no power outage ofc, but the heat just stuttered a bit as I’m laying around in bed.

I confirmed my suspicions btw. It would be easy to scrape as I’ve seen more impressive frosts, but that wasn’t frost, it was a very thin sheet of freezing mist. I took a picture of it.
