Misc General Banter Thread

Classic Miller A signal next weekend. Let’s go! Hopefully this ice event was just an appetizer.

Google AI Weathernext-2 with a decent Miller A signal. That said even with this model the current storm didn’t really get honed in until around 120 hours out (but man did this model hone in on the setup at that juncture)

Btw, can we once and for all make it be known the euro is NOT to be taken seriously with regards to cad and temps? Right now it's 4 degrees colder than it showed for my local and Every run, including the 0z run, shows ALL of northeast ga warming above freezing by 1pm. Obviously that's not going to come close to happening. It's been frustrating seeing so many site it and giving it credibility. It's a great medium range model but it sucks with cad.

Yeah, I'm going to say that I am NOT going to be at 66 at any point today lmao. I should probably get above freezing for that final band (areas as close as Lincoln County may not be as lucky), but its high temp projection is about to be off by about a million degrees most likely.

Yeah it has me getting into the low 40s by late afternoon/sunset. It's going to bust by 10 to 15 degrees here and 30 degrees in augusta. Same goes for the ukmet too folks. Next level busts on temps.

Just checked and my NWS isn't even paying that model any mind. Dropped my high predicted to 37 now (think it was 43 at least when I woke up) and is apparently iffy on if whether I stay plain rain late this afternoon. My bet would be yes thankfully but watch me say thankfully and then have power issues just with a regular storm.

I have 3 weather related channels on my TV. Fox, TWC and Weather Nation. They always report live from the same places. Instead of Atlanta, try the upstate. Instead of Tennessee, go to Kentucky. Instead of Raleigh, try Richmond. Its like they only report on certain states Pet peeve.

There are schools in Georgia that didn't get any Ice at all that are cancelling schools tomorrow. You can't make this up folks. People in the south can be so stupid.
Question, if you had some moisture on the road and if causes black ice tomorrow morning... then a bus full of kids hits that ice and a few kids are hurt or worse... was it worth having school or better to cancel?

I'm guessing the winds will dry out the roads tonight. Maybe a couple of slick spots on the road but not enough to close school.

Triangle area schools already did that in a stupider situation last month.

Heavy freezing drizzle under no returns. Then moderate sleet and ZR under the returns back to the west. 925’s are warming tho. I’m only at -3 now. Still sitting at 17. Likely going to end up close to that 0.5” of potential ZR at this rate
You must live in the Ice Box of South Carolina because I don't see any observations anywhere in South Carolina that is Below 20 according to Wunderground.

I hear ya, I think they just go with super caution since it involved kids. That's all.

lol we’re completely glazed over and not above freezing yet tomorrow is already a normal day per the information we got at 11am. They’re really counting on it not dropping back below freezing tonight assuming it ever warms up today.

Definitely banter here: this storm has been a great education for a liberal arts major who digs WX but didnt get along with math/physics.

The real-time obs and science, learning where the different mb are in regard to feet in atmosphere etc., comparing that to current actual conditions …cool storm…and crew here.

Growing up surfing, I am fairly versed on tropical wx and how it affects waves/swell. But winter WX is different. Thanks everyone!

I don’t understand how Apple weather can say the current temp is 38 when it’s not even close to that per the local stations and even the closest METARs still have 31. Are they just saying their forecasted current temp for this time is the current temp? How is that ok for a weather app?

Apple Weather needs to be overhauled.

So who’s got the 3/4 to 1” apocalypse glaze??
Or did sleet pleasantly suprise most people?

Mine says it's 28 here. RDU is 20, and I am ~12 miles WNW of RDU, so if anything it's colder than 20 here. Needless to say, it's useless and deceptive.

In NC, we missed out on our 1 chance we get each winter. Maybe next winter we will finally see a snow over 3 or 4 inches again. It has been a wild experience.
Not sure where you are in Raleigh, but did you not get a 2-4” storm last February? Also, we have more than 1 chance in a good winter, come on now!
