Wintry February 19-21, 2020 Winter Storm

This one is just about finished here. Late pivot isn’t going to help the upstate. That makes about 12 hours of moderate/heavy snow I’ve seen in the month of February. I ain’t mad. Good luck to everybody east of me. It’s been fun

We got one more dance ,late Feb first few days of March. Saddle up and be ready.

While it looks bleak on the radar, right now, I don't know if I would call this over quite yet. Especially if you're east of I-77. There is still moisture to the south of us. If that low bombs, it could easily dump here again. We really just have to wait and see.

Yeah, I guess it’s a possibility, but more often than not it doesn’t really pan out. The cold was about 4-5 hours too late, otherwise we’d have a good 4 inches on the ground imo.

Nah, this happens a lot with departing snow bands where sometimes it’ll snow a bit after it’s passed on radar due to the DGZ lowering at the end of the storm

That makes sense. Living here in a CAD region, I have seen very little precip on radar, but it'll be a very steady, heavy drizzle or light rain. Was hoping for that deformation band though. Time will tell, I guess.

Can someone explain the science behind why it didn’t snow much at all in upstate sc? It was cold enough, colder than when we got that surprise snow a few weeks back. What is it that keeps us from getting a good one? What would the perfect setup have to be?

The warm nose absolutely killed us. Simple as that

Chris Justice hasn’t done to well as chief metrologist. I’m not sure anyone saw 1-2 inches in upstate sc. maybe someone up in Spartanburg. Anyone get any accumulations in upstate sc?

If anything, what happened in places ike Upstate SC and Charlotte are why TV mets are so hesitant with their accumulation predictions. The models overestimated accum in these areas.

I definitely think I made the right decision by coming to Fayetteville instead of staying in Charlotte, all they saw there was about a dusting, I already have a heavy dusting (0.3) here and counting w/ several hours to go.

I’ve got almost an inch on the top of my grill, but you’re definitely going to get underneath something bigger in my opinion. We had a nice burst around 5:15 pm and that’s what gave us the majority of what we have now.
