Pattern December Discussion

Wow does the snow just hit a brick wall as soon as it gets close to Dallas ? Looks like a sharp gradient.

Happened in the Christmas Eve 2009 storm too... only an inch or two here and 14" in OKC... storm track...

2009 - Rare blizzard conditions impacted portions of North Texas. As much as 9 inches of snow fell in Jacksboro and Bowie, and winds in excess of 50 mph resulted in drifts of 3 to 5 feet. For Dallas/Fort Worth, it was the first measurable Christmas Eve snowfall on record.

DFW also had a White Christmas in 2012
Texas weather is so wild and crazy. It puts our weather in GA to shame.

Yeah but being realistic DFW has its fair share of snow disappointments too... the metro has missed several big snows by 50 miles because of storm track.
Yeah DFW itself is not in the best location but you don't have to go far at all to the north and west to see some good snows in many years. Sherman and Gainesville seem to get snow almost every year.

I don't think the Euro could be any further apart from the GFS good grief... 60s in OKC, DFW near 70 for Christmas and zero snow. Okay then lmao

But the 6-10 on the newest King is once again not a torch for the SE US. Instead, it is near normal in contrast to the GFS' warmer than normal. Long live the King?

Re: December Discussion

so the gfs in one run went from an all out blizzard in Oklahoma to a winter storm threat for the SE ......... sounds about right .

I will bet the house 12z has a cutter

Ugh this is NOT what you want to see from the GFS tho...it will be impossible for it to say the same for 200 hours. Needed this snow threat to show up about 5 days from so we can lock it in within 48. On to the next one gonna go ahead and red flag it.

I'm buying! Just about everyone on the board would see snow from that storm, except our new TX friends!

well if it cuts storm... hope it cuts up trough the spine of the apps... which is technically called a apps runner... which would be ok with me  lol... course just having little fun here... but key thing were starting to see here... big thing here is, there is a signal for a big storm system around xmas period... stay tuned

The 0Z Para also dives the energy south/southeast similar to 6z, instead of closing off back over Texas like what the OP 0z GFS did. It does close off over Ohio Valley and goes to a neutral to about negative tilted at 5H. This looks more like a wrap around threat for Western portions of the SE at surface on the parallel verbatim.

0z CMC/ECMWF isn't as amped up with the system, nor is the Western ridge  that pumped up out west so the system tracks through Mid West to Ohio Valley.
